What will you do as a Construction Manager?
Vopak is seeking a new Construction Manager to be directly responsible for supporting the Sustaining Capex at Vopak Industrial Infrastructure Operations’ (VIIA) St. Charles, LA terminal. This role owns budget, field execution, contracting strategy, and project control for multiple, small Capex projects (typically $1M and under), working in close collaboration to manage the site’s Capex plan from front-end scoping through final close-out.

What do we expect from you as a Construction Manager?
Experience: 5+ years of experience in project planning and execution.
Industry Background: 2+ years of experience in an industrial or related field; experience with tank maintenance, piping, and instrumentation & electrical work is highly preferred.
Self-Starter Mindset: A self-starter who is eager to deliver improvements to the maintenance organization and stays solutions-driven, always keeping operational standards and customer satisfaction in the forefront.
Collaboration: Highly collaborative within direct and indirect teams.
Critical Thinking: Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify process improvements that remove waste and enhance service delivery.

What does your day look like?
Your core responsibilities are:
Project Planning & Controls
Capex Plan Ownership: In close collaboration with the Project Manager, Project Engineer and Operations Team, take ownership of the site’s capex plan and execute projects through Front End Loading (scoping), Planning (contracting strategy, procurement & estimation), Execution Oversight (safety, quality & cost), and Project Close-Out (return to service).
Project Controls: Deliver ownership of project controls, including tracking change orders and seeking approval, and developing and updating simple milestone schedules.
Cost Stewardship: Perform cost stewardship across active projects to keep spend aligned with approved budgets.
Capex Plan Support: Assist the Technical Manager with the 3-Year Capex Plan by developing high-level estimates of future projects and supporting risk ranking to place projects in the appropriate year’s budget.
Project Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Project Lead: Serve as the Project Lead and primary point of contact throughout each project.
Stakeholder Updates: Keep stakeholders informed on project status and progress.
Operations Collaboration: Lead collaboration with operations on project development and execution.
Contractor Management: Lead external contractors, including engineering firms, construction firms, and inspection firms.
Asset & Documentation Management
Maintenance Strategy Support: Assist the maintenance engineer in updating preventative maintenance strategies on newly installed equipment.
Documentation & Procedures: Ensure correct documentation and procedures are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
Drawing Management: Update or manage updates of drawings—including tank drawings, isometrics, and P&IDs—uploaded to the database.
Work Environment
Office AND Terminal Employee
This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 104°F (40°C) and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 15°F (-10°C) in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employees must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.

Field/Office Split: This role is split 50% in the field and 50% in office administrative duties.
Safety Standards: Must be able to follow safety standards to work in high noise, mechanical, and chemical hazard environments.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, walk job sites, and navigate inclement weather onsite.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to climb ladders/storage tanks up to 50’ in height. The employee may be required to enter confined spaces. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employees may be required to travel by air, rail, bus, or car.
