Job Description

The Construction Manager will perform inspections and surveillance of difficult and complex construction projects. Ensures compliance with approved plans and specifications for various construction projects. This position is considered contingent upon award.

Individuals must be able to attain and maintain a valid US Government security clearance to be retained in the position

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of a major segment of a difficult and complex project such as inspecting the materials, installation, and testing of complex and sophisticated electrical, mechanical, and/or hydraulic structures and systems.
  • Coordinate with representatives concerning work scheduling, interpretation of plans and specifications, selection of work methods, and acceptability of materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Required to independently make correct determinations when faced with unique and unusual problems.
  • Resolves problems or conflicts involving the interpretation of plans and specifications requirements.
  • Direct the discontinuance of portions of the work project and refers recommendations to higher level personnel for decisions.
  • Approve changes to the plans which do not alter basic design or involve additional cost.
  • Investigate and report on controversial situations which have either led to formal claims or are expected to lead to such claims.
  • Coordinates with the contracting officer to correct contract deficiencies, unacceptable material, or work performed to ensure compliance with the contract requirements.
  • Recommends approval/disapproval of submittals and progress schedules.
  • Monitors and evaluates progress schedules noting work progress, delays, or other problems that could interfere with construction.
  • Reviews cost breakdowns, progress measurement data, reports of material and equipment used, and field inspection and survey reports in order to compute periodic payments.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, navigating both paved and gravel roads.
  • Must be detailed and safety oriented.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction projects, construction inspections and constructions surveillance.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.

Skill & Certification Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of industry trends, technology, codes, and regulations.
  • The ability to diagram designs both manually and with computer-aided drafting.
  • Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Cost Estimating Software.
  • Good team working and communication skills.
  • An excellent working knowledge of science, mathematics, and engineering principles.
  • Strong analytical, critical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in troubleshooting techniques
  • Presentation and briefing capabilities
