
– Construction Manager
The Construction Manager is responsible for coordinating construction and commissioning (including functional testing) activities across multiple projects, ensuring safe, high‑quality, timely, and cost‑effective completion on behalf of AVANGRID affiliates located in Maine, New York, and Connecticut.
Key Responsibilities
Provide management, oversight, and performance accountability for Field Construction Managers on electric line and substation construction and commissioning projects.
Determine contract resource requirements, develop service specifications, and manage contractor performance.
Coordinate with Field Construction Managers to ensure completion of field inspections and sign‑offs, including environmental or agricultural reviews.
Ensure all functional testing is completed at job sites prior to facility commissioning.
Manage outsourced construction contractors to ensure compliance with safety, quality expectations, project schedules, budgets, and cost‑effective work practices.
Ensure projects are delivered on time and under budget.
Develop, review, and evaluate contracts and agreements impacting project execution and operational activities; provide recommendations accordingly.
Ensure compliance with all permit conditions.
Lead timely resolution of project issues; coordinate closely with Field Construction Managers.
Work collaboratively with project teams to ensure construction management is fully integrated into planning, scheduling, cost tracking, installation sequencing, testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities.
Ensure Field Construction Managers procure necessary construction materials and that material‑handling plans are properly managed and reported.
Coordinate construction schedules with other internal functional areas.
Provide constructability feedback on electrical, mechanical, protection, and civil construction standards.
Research, recommend, and implement changes to align with AVANGRID standards and Business Area objectives.
Resolve disputes promptly and prioritize business requirements to maintain schedule and budget targets.
Provide accurate budget inputs, including field estimates, resource needs, and construction budget oversight.
Participate in construction‑related negotiations and joint planning sessions with other utilities.
Lead site activities to address or remediate electrical system emergencies as necessary.
Proactively identify construction risks during planning and execution; implement mitigation plans.
Perform special studies, alternatives analyses, risk assessments, and cost estimates as required.
Adhere to company policies, programs, and procedures, including CIP, FERC, NERC, and ISO requirements.
Safety: Maintain a high level of safety awareness; ensure all contractors comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures. Wear required PPE, identify unsafe conditions, and ensure issues are corrected promptly.
Ensure Field Construction Managers manage all project and construction resources within established schedules and budgets.
Required Qualifications
Experience / Training
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability and willingness to travel daily to construction sites and attend meetings.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management with 7 years of relevant experience preferred.
OR Associate degree with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
OR High School/GED plus completion of the relevant progression program and 15 years of relevant experience required.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive electric utility industry experience preferred, particularly with electric line or substation construction management.
3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
Skills / Abilities
Extensive knowledge of construction management practices for electric utility lines and substations, including commissioning of electrical equipment.
Strong understanding of interconnected electrical system operations.
Knowledge of OSHA, NESC, NEC, and other industry codes and regulations.
Knowledge of contract development, negotiation, and administration.
Working knowledge of budget development and administration.
Ability to make competent decisions during emergency situations.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings and technical manuals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing reports and business correspondence.
Working knowledge of best‑practice safety policies and procedures.
Effective leadership skills; strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
Results‑oriented mindset.
