Position Title: Construction Management Team Lead

Department: Project Development – Construction Management

Reports to: Director of Project Development

Direct Reports: Construction Managers (Office and Field Staff) and Site Managers

Classification: Exempt — Executive (Salary)

Compensation: Salary range $130,000 – $170,000; Commensurate to skills and experience.

Hours: Full-time: Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. Regular travel to project sites in multiple states is expected; an average of 6-8 days per month.

Maas Energy Works is the leading developer and operator of agricultural waste-to-energy systems in the United States. The Company designs, develops, constructs, and operates biogas powered renewable energy generation systems on dairy farms. Our projects include anaerobic digesters, biogas-powered electric generation, and renewable natural gas upgrading.

Position Description

Maas Energy Works (MEW) is seeking a Construction Management Team Lead to lead our Construction Management team and own delivery of the Company’s construction portfolio: a multi-state pipeline of dairy digester, biogas-to-electric, and renewable natural gas projects that are actively in construction or preparing to break ground. Project scopes include earthwork, covered lagoon and pond installation, pipelines, structures, concrete, mechanical, gas conditioning and upgrading equipment, and electrical.

The Team Lead directly manages the Construction Managers and Site Managers, and is accountable for the team’s performance: safe sites, projects delivered on schedule and within approved budget, disciplined change control, and clean handoffs to Operations. This is a working leader role. The Team Lead sets the standards, processes, and reporting the team runs on, coaches and develops the people on it, and steps in personally on the highest-risk projects, contractor disputes, and escalations. The Team Lead works daily with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Safety, and is the single point of accountability to leadership for construction status across the portfolio.

We are looking for a builder who is experienced in running multiple concurrent industrial or agricultural construction projects, has led field and office teams, and can bring structure within a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership

• Directly supervise, coach, and develop Construction Managers and Site Managers; set written performance expectations, hold regular one-on-ones, conduct performance reviews, and address performance issues promptly and constructively.
• Own staffing for the construction team: forecast workload against the project pipeline, assign CMs and Site Managers to projects, balance field and office coverage, and lead hiring, onboarding, and training for new team members.
• Build a culture of accountability, safety, and ownership; make expectations clear, follow through, and recognize strong performance.
• Serve as the escalation point for the team on contractor disputes, dairy owner issues, schedule conflicts, and field problems that exceed a CM’s authority.

Construction Portfolio Delivery

• Own construction status, schedule, and cost performance across all active projects; know where every project stands and what is at risk.
• Review and approve construction schedules, monitor progress against baseline, and drive recovery plans when projects fall behind.
• Oversee construction budgets and monthly cost forecasts; ensure cost commitments are tracked, forecast to complete is current, and budget variances are identified and escalated early with a proposed mitigation.

Contractors, Procurement, and Contracts

• Manage contractor performance and relationships across the portfolio; hold contractors to contract terms, schedule, quality, and safety requirements.

Safety, Quality, and Compliance

• Own jobsite safety performance for MEW-managed construction; ensure contractor safety programs, site orientations, and incident reporting are in place and followed on every site.
• Set and enforce QA/QC standards for the team, including inspection and test plans, hold points, and documentation of installed work.
• Ensure construction activity meets permit conditions, prevailing wage and apprenticeship documentation requirements where applicable, and multi-state contractor licensing requirements.

Commissioning, Handoff, and Reporting

• Standardize construction reporting across the team and deliver clear, consistent portfolio-level construction reporting to the Director of Project Development and Company leadership.
• Develop, document, and continuously improve construction management processes, templates, and lessons learned; capture root causes of cost and schedule variances and feed them back into estimating, design, and execution.

Qualifications & Skills

• Seven or more years of construction or construction management experience on industrial, agricultural, energy, or heavy civil projects, including at least three years directly supervising construction staff.
• Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent projects and a team of field and office personnel across multiple sites.
• Strong command of construction budgets, cost forecasting, schedules, contracts, and change order management.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and P&IDs required; experience with mechanical, electrical, and gas process equipment strongly preferred.
• Experience leading contractor bidding, selection, and performance management.
• Working knowledge of jobsite safety programs (OSHA 30 preferred) and construction quality control.
• Direct, clear, and professional written and verbal communication; able to deliver difficult messages to contractors, partners, and team members constructively.
• Analytical, organized, and decisive; able to prioritize across a portfolio and act with limited supervision.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel in particular) and project management software; experience with Wrike or similar tools is a plus.
• Experience with anaerobic digesters, biogas, RNG, or dairy operations is a strong plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
• Must possess a valid US driver’s license and be able to pass a background check and a motor vehicle (DMV) background check to qualify for use of a company vehicle.

Physical Demands Requirements

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and on active construction sites. Office work routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. Site work involves outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, etc. Noise level may be loud at times and the role works around moving mechanical or construction equipment.

Physical Demands

This role combines sedentary office work with regular travel and site visits. Must be able to enter, travel in, and exit vehicles and airplanes; walk active construction sites on uneven terrain; and occasionally move objects of at least 50 lbs. Good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina are required.
