Job Description

We Energies, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Construction Lead (Building Mechanic) in our West Allis, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by L2150.

Provide a full range of civil and building construction, repair, renovation, remodeling, and maintenance for company properties and substations, as well as other private and public properties.

Job Responsibilities

  • Site layout and related surveying.
  • Concrete and masonry work.
  • Rough carpentry.
  • Steel fabrication and installation.
  • Heavy equipment operation.
  • Interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Assist electricians in the installation of ground grids.
  • Install underground conduit and manholes.
  • Install and repair doors, windows, walls, ceilings, catwalks, locks, siding, roofing, flooring (carpet and tile).
  • Install cabinets and other finish work.
  • Repair office furniture, partitions, countertops, - Move office equipment and furniture.
  • Maintain exterior grounds including snowplowing, landscape restoration, fence repair, and parking lot and sidewalk repairs.
  • Office remodeling.
  • Painting and wall covering.
  • Major construction and facility additions.
  • Repair and seal electrical vault entrance hatchways, roofs, ceilings, vent covers, and openings.
  • Concrete and masonry repairs.
  • Rough and finish carpentry, cabinetry.
  • Operation of all shop equipment in a safe and productive manner.
  • Build cabinets, displays, furniture, and plastic laminate work.
  • Solid surface material and plastic fabrication.
  • Right-of-way and line tower repairs.
  • Road grading and repairs.
  • Dump site grading.
  • Trenching and dewatering.
  • Demolition and removal of concrete and steel structures and foundations.
  • Clean up and restoration of PCB spills.
  • Concrete core drilling and sawing.
  • Fence construction and repairs.
  • Heavy equipment moving and lifting.
  • Design, build, and estimate various wood and metal projects.
  • Welding and metal fabrication of specialty items for new construction and repairs of substations, vaults, transformers, breakers, and towers.
  • Maintenance assistance at PBNP under Peak Maintenance Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Positions in carpentry and masonry will require journey level status as a carpenter or mason respectively.
  • In lieu of a journey level status, a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in the carpentry/masonry trade within past 10 years.
  • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and meet the company’s requirements for driving.
  • Positions in fabrication will require employees to acquire a state certification in structural welding within 180 days.
  • The selected applicant must obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) within 90 days of entry into the job. The applicant must comply with DOT Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Testing requirements

Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) - Other level: Comprehension of pictured mechanical principles such as gears, levers, pulley systems, water flow, etc.; arithmetic skills in calculating distances shown in prints and drawings; and the ability to read and understand written material. Suggested Preparation: Review of basic arithmetic skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, fractions, etc., and review basic mechanical principals. Minimum Posting Range: $32.03

Maximum Posting Range: $53.35

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
