RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect construction projects such as service centers, generating stations, substations, and transmission lines to ensure compliance with contract specifications and resolve field issues with engineering teams.
  • Perform land, topographical, and structural surveys and compile survey notes, engineering data, and as-built documentation.
  • Support engineering and construction projects in accordance with Minnesota Power standards.
  • Verify compliance with Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and Best Management Practices (BMP).
  • Review invoices, material and labor costs, and construction costs to ensure contract compliance.
  • Coordinate clearances or outages and address landowner concerns related to construction activities.
  • Maintain accurate construction logs and inspection records.
  • Work in field and office environments, including travel and overnight stays as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus a two-year vocational certificate in survey or civil engineering technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Four or more years of related experience and demonstrated technical expertise and communication skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position will report regularly in person to Duluth, MN.
  • Preferred qualifications include knowledge of surveying techniques and equipment, construction practices, land subdivision, and mathematics (including trigonometry), as well as strong interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Civil 3D/AutoCAD, and survey CAD software such as Trimble Business Center is also desired.
  • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) certification as a Site Manager.
  • Field-based role that requires travel and work outdoors in all seasons.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class D driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Certificate.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $32.20 – $40.40. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
