Job Description

Join Creighton Manning’s construction inspection team and help deliver transportation projects that improve how communities move. As a Construction Inspector II, you’ll play a hands-on role in the field supporting roadway, bridge, traffic signal, and roundabout projects across New York. This is an opportunity for an early-career to mid-level inspector to deepen technical expertise, expand leadership capability, and build a rewarding career on meaningful infrastructure work.

Why This Role Stands Out

At Creighton Manning, you’ll work on high-visibility transportation projects in a collaborative environment where learning, flexibility, and career growth are part of the culture. The company highlights exposure to diverse projects, close partnership with experienced project leaders, and strong professional development support—including tuition reimbursement, paid licensing fees, and competitive benefits.

  • Work on projects with visible community impact, including highways, bridges, traffic signals, and roundabouts
  • Grow your skills alongside experienced project managers and senior inspectors
  • Join an award-winning team known for collaboration and employee-centered culture
  • Access competitive pay, strong benefits, and professional development support

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a key field presence on active construction projects, documenting daily activities, quantities, materials, and progress
  • Inspect construction operations involving earthwork, paving, drainage, utilities, and structural components
  • Verify field conditions, material characteristics, and testing requirements to support quality and compliance
  • Review work zone traffic control setups for conformance with project plans and applicable standards
  • Prepare accurate daily reports and maintain organized project records
  • Flag issues promptly and communicate concerns about workmanship, safety, schedule, or constructability to the appropriate team members
  • Support preplacement inspections and assist with evaluating compaction methods and test results
  • Contribute to successful project delivery on small assignments or as part of a larger inspection team

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a field-focused professional who combines technical curiosity with sound judgment, strong documentation habits, and a team-first mindset. You’re someone who takes pride in doing the details right, stays alert to quality and safety, and wants to keep growing in transportation construction inspection.

  • Reliable, observant, and comfortable working in active field environments
  • A clear communicator who can raise concerns professionally and promptly
  • Organized and accurate when documenting field activity and project records
  • Motivated to build expertise in highway and bridge inspection and broaden responsibility over time

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; associate’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET/EAC-accredited program (or approved equivalent) is valued
  • NICET Level II certification required, or an approved equivalent under NYSDOT policy
  • Equivalent pathways may include prior NYSDOT employment as a title SET or a qualifying associate degree as recognized by NYSDOT policy
  • Strong computer skills required; familiarity with Site Manager and/or APPIA is a plus
  • ACI, NETTCP Soils and Aggregate certifications, or comparable NYSDOT training, are a plus

Experience

You should bring at least 1-3 years of direct experience in highway construction inspection or a closely related field, along with demonstrated success performing field documentation, inspections, and coordination in active construction environments. Familiarity with NYSDOT specifications and procedures is preferred but not required.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Track quantities, material tickets, labels, and other field data used to support project records and payment documentation
  • Differentiate common soils and aggregates and identify material sampling requirements
  • Inspect earthwork, asphalt and concrete pavement, drainage, utilities, incidental construction, and concrete structural work at a basic to intermediate level
  • Confirm work zone traffic control is installed in accordance with the MUTCD and project plans
  • Conduct or support preplacement inspections and evaluate observed field conditions against specifications
  • Review compaction methods and test results to help determine acceptability
  • Monitor environmental components of project plans for compliance
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely field reports and supporting documentation

Management, Supervision, and Guidance

This role typically works independently on assigned inspection tasks while partnering closely with senior inspectors, resident engineers, and project managers. You’ll be expected to use good judgment in the field, escalate issues when needed, and contribute to a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement. As your experience grows, this role offers a path toward greater autonomy and increased field leadership responsibility.

Communication, Teamwork, and Leadership

Success in this role depends on strong communication and the ability to work effectively across project teams. You’ll collaborate with contractors, engineers, and fellow inspectors, share timely updates, and help surface issues before they become bigger problems. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to build influence in the field, strengthen professional credibility, and become a trusted contributor on complex transportation projects.

Why This Role
