
TxDOT's Collin County Area Office in Dallas District is seeking a Construction Inspector to join us in the inspection and oversight of essential projects in the North - Central region. Depending on skill level, this employee will perform all facets of bridge inspection, roadway inspection, environmental compliance, and materials inspection. Employee will serve as Inspector on a range of small-scale to large-scale projects. Duties include fieldwork. Employee may be required to work late or night shifts per the Area office needs. This position will be in our Collin County Area Office and will help support the inspection of our existing infrastructure and new upcoming construction projects. Inspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications; acts as consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution; may serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for very large and/or complex projects within a district or conduct statewide construction inspection activities for ongoing airport improvement projects. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work. Work requires contact with contractors. May perform materials tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Construction Inspector I and II:
Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.
Calculates payments due contractors for work completed.
Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.
Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades; as required moves traffic control devices and barricades.
Observes and inspects ongoing construction work.
Prepares monthly and final estimates.
Observes and inspects ongoing fabrication processes of structural steel bridge girders, pre-stressed concrete bridge girders and other structural components.
Documents work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Duties for a Construction Inspector II:
Conducts project reviews and coordinates inspections with various inspectors and other district/division project managers.
May serve as a lead worker or project leader.
Trains and mentors less experienced inspectors on work methods.
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Construction Inspector I: No experience required.
Construction Inspector II: 1 YEAR construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection; or transportation engineering support-related experience.
Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
