About this position:
The overall function of this position is responsible for assisting professional engineer and/or higher level inspectors in the performance of construction inspection work. This position is located in District 61, Unit 216/West Baton Rouge Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Construction Inspector Supervisor. This position is subject to drug testing per LADOTD policies and work shift work such as nights, evenings , weekends, and rotating. This position requires a class E driver’s license and may work in extreme weather or hazardous conditions. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Utilize a thorough knowledge and understanding of department procedures, policies, standards, and specifications in the inspection of construction work and the processing of construction-related documents such as field diaries and partial or final estimates.
Serve as primary construction inspector in area or areas of specialization or certification. Determine sample requirements for area(s) of expertise. Verify elevations/alignments work for surveys.
Review haul tickets to determine if loads are in compliance with authorized/approved load quantities/volume. Prepare work reports, estimates quantities, and performs mathematical calculations necessary to complete paperwork. May serve as the primary asphalt plant technician.
Enter construction project data into appropriate computer database or application (SiteManager & LIMS).
Attend preconstruction and progress meetings when designated as primary construction inspector for a project. Determine anticipated quantities and provide construction insight for projects in design phase.

Compensation:
Construction Inspector 1 - $14.98/hourly
Construction Inspector 2 - $17.15/hourly
Construction Inspector 3 - $19.63/hourly
Construction Inspector 4 - $22.47/hourly
** Additional $2.00/Hourly Premium Pay for Every Hour Worked
