Construction Estimator Specialist - Freelance, Remote

Compensation: $7.00 / hour

An established construction services firm that manages bids, proposals, and project estimating for commercial and residential work. They use modern estimating platforms and have an in‑house estimator team to produce and finalize proposals. The company values fast, accurate estimates to reduce backlog and increase bid conversion.

Why does this role exist?
We’re hiring a dedicated estimating resource to take on the volume of quantity takeoffs and produce initial, accurate estimates so the internal estimator can focus on review and finalization. The primary objective is to reduce backlog and speed up turnaround of proposals to improve conversion and business throughput. This role ensures estimates are delivered promptly and to the level of detail required for in‑office review each business day

The Impact you’ll make

Quantity Takeoffs

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications using established methods and SOPs.
  • Verify measurements, material lists, and quantities for all assigned scopes.
  • Produce organized takeoff files ready for estimator review.

Initial Estimating & Proposals

  • Prepare initial cost estimates and proposals using company cost data and estimating tools.
  • Populate Procore estimate modules and proposal templates as required.
  • Apply company-specific cost assumptions and escalate unclear items per SOP.

Handoffs & Collaboration

  • Deliver completed takeoffs and initial estimates to the internal estimator (Brian) for same‑day review.
  • Maintain clear, concise handoff notes and status updates so reviewers can act quickly.
  • Coordinate with reviewers (Brian and Bryan) to resolve questions and incorporate feedback.

Volume & Accuracy Management

  • Maintain daily throughput to reduce backlog while keeping error rates within acceptable limits.
  • Track and report outstanding clarifications and assumptions needed to finalize proposals.
  • Prioritize work to meet deadlines and support outreach KPI timelines.

Process Adherence & Continuous Improvement

  • Follow provided SOPs and participate in onboarding/training on company-specific tools and costs.
  • Suggest improvements to estimating templates, checklists, or workflows based on recurring issues.
  • Keep estimating files organized and audit-ready for reviewer checks.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required:

  • Prior hands-on construction estimating and quantity takeoff experience (commercial/residential).
  • Proficiency with Procore estimating and quantity takeoff workflows.
  • Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail; degree in math/construction/related field preferred.
  • Able to work US Eastern Time business hours and coordinate with in‑office estimator team.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate takeoffs with minimal training.

  • WFH Set-Up:
    • Computer with at least 8GB RAM, an Intel i5 core processor/AMD Ryzen 5 Processor and up.
    • Internet speed of at least 40MBPS
    • Headset with an extended mic that has noise cancellation and a webcam
    • Back-up computer and internet connection
    • Quiet, dedicated workspace at home

  • Technical: Procore, takeoff software familiarity, blueprint reading, construction materials & assemblies knowledge, MS Excel competency.

  • Monday - Friday: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm (Eastern Time)

Compensation:

  • $7 per hour
