Job Description

Role, Function & Organization  

The Senior Estimator is a key contributor responsible for preparing detailed electrical estimates across a variety of projects. This role involves interpreting blueprints, performing quantity take-offs, and coordinating closely with project teams to ensure accurate and timely project bids. This position will play an active role in mentoring and developing new estimators to support team growth and success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Estimating:

  • Collect, calculate, and compile data for use in bid proposals, including labor, materials, and project timelines
  • Independently prepare both routine and complex electrical estimates
  • Conduct thorough reviews of project specifications, drawing, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine full scope of work
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and prepare complete estimates for all types of electrical construction projects
  • Design and calculate services, feeders, and branch circuits for design-build estimates
  • Prepare and present detailed estimate breakdown to Project Managers and operational leaders
  • Submit final bids and proposals, ensuring internal review processes are completed with all supporting documentation for executive and branch-level review

Cost & Data Management:

  • Maintain current and accurate pricing databases using direct vendor communication, catalogs, and price lists
  • Ensure accurate and organized recordkeeping of drawings, estimates, correspondence, and other project documentation
  • Regularly update estimate files, drawing logs, and cost data to reflect the most current project and market conditions

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency through creative redesigns and value engineering solutions
  • Continuously improve estimating workflows, systems, and processes for increased accuracy and efficiency
  • Introduce and implement improved tools, software, and procedures to support estimating functions

Team Collaboration & Mentorship:

  • Guide portions of the estimating effort on assigned projects by distributing tasks to team members
  • Participate in bid reviews for projects
  • Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced estimators

Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination: 

  • Pre-plan and identify the methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task. 
  • Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention. 
  • Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company.  Support goal of achieving zero accidents. 
  • Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed. 
  • Obtain safety training as expected by all company personnel. 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • Higher education in Architectural Technology (or related) OR equivalent experience preferred
  • 8+ years experience in electrical construction estimating
  • Exposure to or experience working with estimating software required
  • Knowledge of electrical construction preferred
  • Ability to read and understand various construction documents proficiently

Experience, Skill and Abilities

  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity -- both are non-negotiable
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Strong self-motivation, work ethic, and drive for career growth
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels of the company and customers
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized person able to manage priorities with awareness of deadlines and expectations
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and customer requirements, and to assist team members
  • Team player with a solid work ethic and professional attitude, working in alignment with company values

Physical Requirements 

Office environment, requiring sitting and standing, and extended amounts of time using a computer/keyboard at a single workstation.
