Job Description

The Senior Construction Manager HVDC Portfolio will be directly responsible for the construction and commissioning activities of HVDC packages closely coordinating with all partners from our HVDC Product Delivery Group (HVDC PDG) and other key stakeholders. He/She will be responsible for her/his portfolio for on-time delivery and customer satisfaction through management of site activities and resources. The successful candidate will provide leadership to strategically manage site delivery including defining execution strategy, subcontractor management, statutory compliances and ensure that the project / work package follows high standards in terms of quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements. The role deals with executing projects in construction stage (from contract signature to commercial operation by customer). He/she will be instrumental in defining ITO strategy for New Opportunities and be overall responsible for all ongoing C&C packages.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the Construction and Commissioning phase for a large GEV HVDC Project Portfolio in India.

EHS and Quality:

  • Promotes EHS culture by proactively engaging, sharing, and going to Gemba.
  • Ensuring all GEV and Customer EHS practices, procedures, Life Saving Rules are incorporated, implemented in the project specific EHS procedure and followed with strict compliance, supported by EHS department.
  • Implementation of the Zero Deviation Plan and weekly safety inspection with all subcontractor agencies.
  • Ensure all project deliverables are met with highest quality and high degree of customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure Implementation of Quality procedure & method statement for all installation activities.
  • Ensure GEV policies and procedures are effectively communicated to all site stakeholders.
  • Lead by example through active observation of site conditions and behaviours, providing immediate constructive feedback, and celebrating safety behaviours and achievements

Operational Excellence:

  • Responsible for planning C&C (Construction & Commissioning) activities within the overall project schedule and implementing the construction management system to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Project Execution Strategy: Based on the contract, contribute to implement the overall strategy for the execution of the project to achieve the project performance goals.
  • Communication: represents GE towards the customer on construction and commissioning matters; controls and manages this interface and relationship.
  • Project Profitability: Closely work with and guide Project Managers to ensure timely deliverables during construction stage, achievement of Billing, Revenue and Cash Collections, review risks and their mitigation actions and reinforce opportunities in project.
  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Develops and deploys teams to Monitor and guides
    • recording of all incoming equipment & materials at site on delivery and flagging of any deviation/damage.
    • recording of all equipment/materials issued to the sub-contractor and implementation of Monitoring of the delivery of equipment’s.
  • Ensure Site governance in line with GE Vernova’s practices. Identify and deploys relevant tools and processes to improve Site operations.
  • Lead coach a multi-cultural team C&C Best Practices.
  • Customer Fronting: Regular customer management.
  • Understand the GE VERNOVA strategy and support its implementation towards customers, partners, suppliers and other GE VERNOVA employees.

Project Organization:

  • Preparing staffing plans, mobilizing site teams, and tracking actuals against plan. Partner with management to ensure that the correct level of competent resources are being made available to ensure the successful completion of the project. Supports Regions Competencies Ramp-Up by bringing his/her expertise and knowledge, support as needed the Trainings developments for C&C staff.
  • Align the roles, responsibilities and priorities of construction team with the needs of GSI Business leadership and ensuring customer focus. Interact with Regional Management and Business Line Headquarter Central Team. Understand the GE VERNOVA strategy and support its implementation towards customers, partners, suppliers and other GE VERNOVA employees.

Additional Responsibilities:

Tender Phase (ITO):

  • Guide and Lead costing and scheduling for construction and commissioning activities.
  • Define subcontracting strategies in alignment to EHS, Quality, Planning and Sourcing.
  • Actively provide leadership to construction team to prepare high quality tender documents.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree Level or equivalent in Engineering or equivalent knowledge.
  • Previous Construction and commissioning or site leadership experience of large and complex projects valued over 100 M$.
  • Technical knowledge in electrical grids and ideally power electronics / HVDC will be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with international standards and best practices in construction.
  • Knowledge of HVDC valve system / High voltage switchgear /SCADA systems / Protection & Control /Grid connection interface works /Electrical HV safety rules & safe systems of work.
  • High level of energy, grit, resilience with a “Run it like you Own it” mindset.
  • Good Communication Skills (Fluent English Spoken and Written)
  • Commercial awareness with demonstrated ability to negotiate variation, settlements in complex projects.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, embodying GE leadership behaviors.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks whilst maintaining accuracy within set time limits.
