HGS CONSTRUCTION CLAIM REPRESENTATIVE - COMPLEX CLAIMS UNIT

The Claim Representative is a claim handling role within the Complex Claims Unit (CCU) – Construction - Hartford Global Specialty (HGS) Claims Division. CCU is a highly specialized claim organization.  This role is responsible for the management of construction related general liability claims involving bodily injury, property damage and/or construction defect from inception to final disposition. These claims will involve both primary and excess coverages and often involve complex fact patterns requiring analysis of contracts between parties to determine indemnity and contribution obligations and risk transfer opportunities. These claims also commonly involve litigation along with higher exposures. The Claim Representative is accountable for delivering superior customer service and successfully investigating and managing claim exposures consistent with corporate claim standards, policies and procedures and statutory, regulatory and ethics requirements.  

The Claim Representative will demonstrate the ability to proactively manage high excess and lower-exposure primary claims with an analytical focus, demonstrating the ability to comprehend and communicate facts, issues, and resolution strategies to management and other stakeholders.   

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide proactive communications and respond to inquiries from customers and business partners in the management of claims; 
  • Review and analyze complex policies and coverage parts; 
  • Write and articulate coverage positions; 
  • Conduct investigations regarding claims and/or lawsuits; 
  • Manage litigation with counsel and/or other carriers;
  • Make liability and damages assessments; 
  • Pursue risk transfer against other liable parties and insurance carriers; 
  • Attend mediations and trials, as necessary; 
  • Keep management informed of claim developments;
  • Manage expenses, reserves and financial transactions;

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills;
  • Strong customer service and active listening skills;
  • Strong time management and organization skills;
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
  • A desire to learn and grow and work as part of a team toward common goals;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams, with the ability to effectively leverage these tools in a fast-paced professional environment
  • Experience utilizing generative AI tools to assist with claim handling activities is preferred;
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • 1-2 years of claim handling or equivalent experience preferred;

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

  • This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Phoenix, AZ, Naperville, IL, Alpharetta, GA) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).   Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
  • As a condition of your employment, you must obtain and maintain a State Adjuster's License to process Property & Casualty Insurance Claims in the state(s) supported by your office. Continued employment with The Hartford is contingent upon the successful passage of the Licensing exam(s) within 30 business days from the completion of the licensing training.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$56,391 - $84,587
