Construction and Maintenance Specialist (Gas Corrosion)
PLEASE NOTE: This position will be filled at one of the following levels based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate -
- Construction and Maintenance Technician (Starting pay is $29.84 followed by an increase to $31.34 after probation)
- Construction and Maintenance Specialist (Starting pay is $32.92 followed by an increase to $34.56 after probation)
- Construction and Maintenance Lead (Starting pay is $42.02 followed by an increase to $44.11 after probation)
Our Gas Corrosion team at Colorado Springs Utilities is responsible for inspecting, installing, troubleshooting, and testing cathodic protection systems related to gas pipelines, underground and above-ground storage tanks, high-voltage electric conduits, pump facilities, and plant facilities. In this role, you'll support our Corrosion Lead and Technicians through performing work associated with installations of test stations and anodes as part of our cathodic protection program. You'll also be responsible for performing condition assessment on gas pipelines utilizing keyhole equipment, including ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and safety procedures pertaining to gas pipelines. If you have gas utility-related experience, and preferably basic corrosion knowledge or experience, we want to hear from you!
What Else Will You be Doing?
- Safely operating construction equipment to install test stations and anodes
- Collecting data of exposed existing piping through our condition assessment program
- Ensuring that underground utilities have been located properly and that job sites are safe by using proper barricades
- Inspecting and documenting the condition of gas mains and service lines using our Visual Pipe Inspections Application
- Operating and documenting Frontics inspections
- Performing safe handling of gas mains and service lines
- Maintaining accurate records of work performed and materials used
- Obtaining and maintaining Operator Qualification (OQ) certification
Please note that this position will require working overtime, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour callouts based on business needs. Additionally, you will be subject to working in adverse weather conditions and responding to emergencies.
Who You Are
- Experience in gas construction, gas infrastructure and asset maintenance, and/or general gas utility experience
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license and a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required
- Knowledge of gas construction materials
- Knowledge of gas distribution line installation, excavation, and compaction standards
- Basic gas corrosion knowledge and experience is valued
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) gas pipeline safety laws and regulations is valued
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Exerts 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or 10-20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
- Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
