Job Description

Stantec has an immediate opening in our Charleston, South Carolina office for a Construction Administrator This role will assist the Construction Engineer with providing periodic site observations for construction projects in the field, observing testing for installed utilities, and providing permit closeout support for the project.

As a Construction Administrator, you will utilize your construction experience, technical knowledge of basic engineering principles, and familiarity with municipal infrastructure to successfully facilitate and manage projects, under the supervision of the Construction Engineer or Project Manager. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative and will excel under minimal supervision. You will be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and skilled in delivering on your commitments. You will work with a team of engineers, designers, and project managers performing general construction administration duties.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine construction observations for our projects which include, but are not limited to: utility installation, site grading, asphalt pavement installation, landscape installation, and erosion control.
  • Reviews project submittals, Requests for Information (RFI), Pay Applications, and Change Orders for accuracy, under the direction of the Supervisor.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Supervisor, or Project Manager, and the Contractor.

    Maintains a strong working knowledge of how to effectively navigate municipal websites for specific closeout requirements, which often change.
  • Prepares permit closeout packages for the relevant jurisdictions, effectively tracking dates for submittal, maintaining records of submittals, and providing the Client with exceptional service.
  • Seek guidance from Supervisor or Project Manager to resolve project-related issues that may arise during construction.
  • Review Record Drawings/As-Built Drawings and compare to Construction Drawings for technical completeness and conformance to municipality requirements.
  • Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation.

    Inspect erosion control devices, ensure they are maintained, and that they are in compliance with applicable permits.
  • Create daily reports to document quantities, discrepancies, and photographs.
  • Coordinate, attend, and lead preconstruction meetings, routine progress meetings, and supplemental project discussions both on-site and on calls.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Fundamental understanding of basic engineering principles pertaining to grading and drainage, water and wastewater utilities, and road construction.
  • Ability to obtain the following certifications within one (1) year of employment if necessary
    • CEPSCI (Certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector) Certification
    • SCDOT Earthwork Inspector Certification
    • OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety Certification
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Safety focused.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Ability to understand and explain technical details.
  • Prior to employment, this position will require the successful passing of a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Committed to reporting to the job site, on-time each day, and working until the day’s operations are complete (may be more than 8 hours).

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education.
  • 2 + years of experience with construction, engineering or related experience.
  • The position will work in both field and office settings.
