Job Description

The mission of the City of Boston Assessing Department is to accurately collect data, assess property at its full and fair cash value, and provide prompt and courteous service to the public. The Assessing Department is a leader in municipal valuation and seeks to maintain that status by attracting talented experience to our core staffing.

Under the direction of the TRAC Director or other assigned supervisor, the City of Boston seeks a Constituent Assistance Specialist to provide a high degree of customer service to the public, perform clerical work, provide information and assistance regarding property taxes, motor vehicle excise, boat excise, and perform miscellaneous administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, professional, and courteous assistance to the public.
  • Provide information and assistance regarding property taxes, motor vehicle excise, and boat excise.
  • Respond to constituent inquiries in person, by telephone, and in writing.
  • Review and process application forms.
  • Receive, organize, and maintain files.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years of clerical, information, and data management experience required; appropriate educational substitutions may be accepted for two (2) years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Clerical and data entry experience required.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and problem-solving as required by the job.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and perform multiple tasks within deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite is a plus.

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED

Terms:Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SEIU/RL-14Hours per week: 35, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
