The Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS) was created in July 2025 and, once operational, will strengthen Alberta’s policing model and complement existing law enforcement agencies.
As a newly established organization, the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS) offers a unique opportunity to help shape Alberta's newest police service. ASPS is building the governance frameworks, systems, policies, and professional standards that will support a modern, evidence-informed, and operationally effective public safety organization dedicated to serving Albertans
Please note Successful candidates will be employed directly by the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service and will not be hired into the Government of Alberta. This position may initially be filled in a civilian capacity and is expected to transition to a sworn police officer role

Communicates clearly and professionally with the public, victims, and colleagues.
Completes accurate, thorough documentation supporting accountability and prosecution.
Presents evidence credibly in court and under cross-examination.
Legal Compliance
Exercises police powers lawfully in accordance with legislation and Charter requirements.
Applies procedural requirements for arrests, searches, and evidence handling.
Maintains currency with applicable legislation and policy requirements.
Public Safety Focus
Prioritizes protection of life and public safety in operational decisions.
Assists victims and vulnerable persons with appropriate referrals and support.
Engages proactively with communities to address public safety concerns.
Operational Readiness
Maintains physical fitness and tactical proficiency as required by ASPS standards.
Maintains all required certifications and qualifications throughout employment.
Operates service equipment proficiently under normal and emergency conditions.
Adaptability
Adapts tactical responses to evolving situations while maintaining safety.
Maintains situational awareness in dynamic and high-risk environments.
Responds effectively to changing priorities and operational demands.
Approved police recruit training program; with completion of ASPS training upon hiring.
Requirements
There are 20 permanent, full-time positions available.
Work Schedule: Vary based on operational deployment. Work hours will be 40 hours per week.

Conditions of Employment
Reports to Sergeant or equivalent frontline supervisor. This is not a supervisory position. May provide operational input to investigative units or specialized teams as required.
The Constable is exposed to direct physical risk including lethal force and grievous bodily harm in the course of duties and is subject to individual civil and criminal liability arising from the exercise of police powers. Personal and organizational reputational risk is inherent to this role.
