The Console Operator utilizes a multiple-position computerized switchboard to process incoming calls and requests for information.

Required Training Ability to maintain professionalism while working under stress during extremely busy times;

Ability to multi-task between different systems, i.e. phone/paging system, computer system, etc.

Essential Functions

  • Operates voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phones and hospital paging systems.
  • Operates patient information systems.
  • Properly handles all incoming calls for the hospital’s main line.
  • Provides information to callers while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and hospital policy.
  • Acts as an in-house directory.
  • Has a complete knowledge of the switchboard, to include, utilization of equipment and adherence to hospital policies.
  • Properly notifies on call personnel for different hospital departments.
  • Reports issues to the proper personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance in training new employees.
  • Perform other duties assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster.
  • Ensures operation compliance with Federal, State, County, Organization, and Department standards.
  • Ensures accurate and timely dissemination of information to supervision.
  • Ensures timely resolution to requests.
  • Any other request assigned by management.
