Summary

This employee will be responsible for providing support to the Soil and Water Conservation Districts within the Edisto-Savannah Valley area and the public.

Job Duties Include:

  • Maintaining constant communication and remaining current on logistics of assigned Conservation Districts by attending meetings, making office visits, and assisting with requests, issues and planning.
  • Providing and identifying needed/requested assistance to assigned Conservation Districts.
  • Assisting with Department and Conservation District programs, outreach, and partnerships.
  • Assisting with local outreach that promotes the conservation district mission and highlights DNR, NRCS, and districts.
  • Relaying information regarding land management issues, new partnerships, funding opportunities, and programs in assigned Conservation Districts to supervisor.
  • Partnerships include but not limited to: (a) SC Association of Conservation Districts; (b) SC Conservation Districts Employees Association; (c) Natural Resources Conservation Service; (d) National Association of Conservation Districts; (e) National Association of State Conservation Agencies; (f) SCACD Policy Position Committees (as assigned); (g) other local organizations and agencies in assigned area.
  • Delivering Department and Conservation District programs, opportunities, trainings, and expectations to assigned Conservation Districts and statewide when appropriate.
  • Making recommendations and assisting with creation of needed content for districts based on field experiences with assigned Conservation Districts.
  • Ensuring assigned Conservation Districts are meeting requirements and expectations of the Department.
  • Assisting in delivering, developing and auditing SC Conservation Districts training for the Department, Conservation Districts, and the public.
  • Providing administrative reports, attending staff meetings and other duties as assigned.

Examples of duties

A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in agriculture, environmental or natural science, forestry, wildlife biology, or other relevant field and four (4) years experience. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of groups and individuals; ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; ability to convey accurate, concise information; knowledge of natural resource laws and processes; ability to work with minimal supervision; ability to analyze data and formulate sound conclusions.
