Title: Safety and Wellbeing Advisor

We are seeking a Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to join our team. Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health/Safety and Wellbeing (MHSWB) and in collaboration with the Senior Advisor, MHSWB, the Safety and Wellbeing Advisor will provide expertise in creating safe and supportive environments and providing emotional support.
The Advisor will provide operational and specialized guidance and support management and other stakeholders with problem-solving and decision-making.


In this role, you will :

  • Participate in developing annual objectives for the MHSWB service line.

  • Ensure MHSWB activities are meeting strategic planning objectives and support execution.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of national SWB program objectives, strategies, processes, tools, and documents to build and maintain operational program capacity in the provinces.

  • Support the implementation of and compliance with national SWB program standards and procedures, including minimum standards for child protection, gender equality, and diversity.

  • Provide guidance and advice to the MHSWB Operations Manager and field staff regarding protection issues and creating safe and supportive environments.

  • Support the development of recruitment and training objectives and strategies for SWB program volunteers.

  • In collaboration with the MHSWB Deputy Director and the national Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) team, establish priorities for the translation and revision of program documentation.

  • As a subject matter expert, act as the main focal point for the reviser to validate the translation of technical terms related to mental health and safe and supportive environments.

  • Build and maintain relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, as well as with colleagues from the national and provincial teams.

What we are looking for:

  • An undergraduate degree related to psychosocial support or mental health; any other combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

  • At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience and at least one year of experience in volunteer management.

  • Relevant and demonstrated experience in emergency preparedness (disaster relief, emergency management, recovery).

  • Strong spoken and written communication skills (bilingual in English/French).

  • Proficiency in using MS Office applications.

  • Experience in facilitating committees and working with Indigenous communities or in intercultural environments are considered assets.

  • Completion of psychological first aid training and training in the fields of protection, violence prevention or in psychosocial support in emergency situations are considered assets.

Working Conditions:

  • Temporary full-time position until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension if the mandate is extended.

  • Most of the work will be performed in an office environment, with a hybrid model combining working from home and at the Red Cross office.

  • Travel in the greater Montreal area and possibly in other regions of Quebec / Canada is a regular part of the job.

  • Flexible schedule, sometimes atypical due to travel.

  • Potential field deployments.

  • May be required to respond in disaster areas, in difficult and unstable conditions (environmental, physical, social, etc.) and uncomfortable conditions (noise, odours, smoke, humidity, vulnerable clients) that may have physical and psychological impacts.

  • May be required to respond during non-traditional hours (i.e. late night or weekends) and work long hours in a demanding context.

  • May be required to be on call as scheduled.

  • As we work with and support people (managers, colleagues, beneficiaries/customers, volunteers, donors and external partners) and communities in Canada and around the world, applicants whose first language is not English may be required to perform the responsibilities of the role in English.
