The School of International Service (SIS) at American University (AU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-line position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1, 2016. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. or the highest equivalent degree in a relevant discipline by August 2016.
We seek scholar-teachers whose work is theoretically grounded, empirically tested, and policy relevant. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in research and teaching and a commitment to university service. Candidates should also share the School’s commitment to diversity.
We seek candidates whose work focuses on the development and well-being of societies abroad in the face of extreme violence, including issues of transitional justice and reconciliation, post-conflict development, inequity, vulnerability, human rights, and the relationship between violence, local governance, and collective action. As a school that includes a diversity of scholarly disciplines and approaches, we seek the best candidates, without respect to a particular discipline, with a preference for a regional focus outside of the Americas, particularly in the Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Central or East Asia.
