Job Description

Location: Hengelo, Netherlands

Who are you?

Are you an expert in (software) configuration management and do you find satisfaction in shaping processes and continuously improve them? Do you have experience managing software configurations and guiding teams in adopting new working methods? Then we are looking for you!

As a Configuration Manager in our software division, you play a crucial role in managing the complete software lifecycle. You provide structure, monitor quality, and ensure that everyone in the development process works according to the correct procedures. You are not only a process expert but also a coach and sparring partner who guides teams and stakeholders through changes and improvements.

About the position:

In this role, you are responsible for drafting and executing the Configuration Management Plan (CMP). In this plan, you describe the software structure and define how the software configurations are managed throughout the entire lifecycle within both the development environments and the public Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. You ensure that a solid foundation supports the way we manage our software versions, releases, and changes. This means developing and promoting processes, conducting audits, and training teams—all with the goal of optimal quality and traceability.

You work closely with software- and system architects and are the point of contact for change management. Additionally, you contribute to our department's strategy and vision.

What will you be doing?

  • You develop and improve software configuration management processes and ensure they are properly applied by all teams.
  • You guide change by providing a clear overview of the impact and assigning tasks.
  • You connect the CI/CD development pipeline to the central PLM domain where the hardware connection is established.
  • You monitor the traceability of software and infrastructure throughout the entire lifecycle.
  • You conduct configuration audits and know how to implement improvements together with teams.
  • You draft and maintain the Configuration Management Plan (CMP), in which you describe the software structure and configuration process agreements.
  • You guide, coach, and train engineering teams in working with configuration and PLM tools and organize the Configuration Control Board (CCB).
  • You actively contribute to strategy, innovation, and improvements within the configuration management department.
  • You are a reliable sparring partner at all levels within the organization.

Your profile:

  • Experience as a Configuration Manager in software development environments.
  • A Bachelor's degree level, preferably in a technical or IT field.
  • In-depth knowledge of version control, build & release management, and change management tooling.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum/DevOps methodologies and modern software delivery processes.
  • Familiarity with configuration and product lifecycle management (CM2).
  • Strong analytical skills focused on process improvement and automation.
  • You are proactive, decisive, and demonstrate leadership.
  • You have a good command of Dutch and English; German or French is a plus.

What do we offer you?

At Thales, you will join an innovative, international, and informal work environment. We offer you a place where you can develop yourself, your initiative is valued, and you collaborate with talented colleagues from 68 countries.

A good work-life balance is very important, which is why we offer Hybrid working, with an ideal combination of 60% at the office and 40% at home, so that you can organize your work optimally. Space and support for your personal development and growth opportunities, whether technical, commercial, management-oriented, or international. A competitive salary with an attractive travel allowance. Flexible employment conditions that you can customize yourself, such as exchanging 40 vacation days for internet costs, participation in our bicycle plan, company fitness, and reimbursement of relocation costs.

In short: do you want to play an important role in improving and securing software configuration processes in a dynamic and international organization? Then respond quickly and join our enthusiastic team!
