The Configuration Manager – Junior supports the implementation and maintenance of configuration management processes to ensure the integrity and traceability of software and system baselines across the client’s enterprise IT environment. This role focuses on tracking configuration items, supporting version control and change control, and maintaining configuration management databases to keep documentation and deployed environments aligned. It operates in a federal IT context, partnering closely with development and operations teams to enforce configuration standards, documentation practices, and formal change procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Support configuration identification, control, status accounting, and audits across software baselines, ensuring complete and accurate records of configuration items and changes throughout the lifecycle.
Maintain and update configuration management databases (CMDB) and other repositories, tracking configuration items from introduction through retirement and validating data integrity.
Assist in managing version control systems (e.g., Git), including enforcing branching strategies, supporting tagging and release practices, and ensuring proper check-in/check-out procedures.
Support change control processes by documenting, tracking, and coordinating change requests, approvals, and implementations in alignment with governance and change control boards.
Conduct configuration audits to confirm consistency between configuration documentation and deployed systems, and to verify adherence to approved baselines and standards.
Prepare configuration status accounting reports that provide visibility into baselines, changes, and item history for program leadership and compliance stakeholders.
Develop and maintain configuration management documentation, including configuration management plans, procedures, and work instructions supporting repeatable CM practices.
Collaborate with engineering, development, and operations teams to ensure adherence to CM policies and procedures and to promote standardized configuration practices across environments.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience in configuration management or technical IT roles.
Approximately 1–3 years of experience in configuration management or closely related software/IT environments, including exposure to CM plans, version control, and audit activities.
Foundational understanding of configuration identification, configuration control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audit concepts applied to software baselines.
Experience supporting or maintaining CM documentation (e.g., configuration management plans) and contributing to version control and change tracking activities.
Ability to work with development and operations teams in an enterprise or federal IT environment, following formal policies, standards, and change control processes.
Must hold an active Secret clearance and be able to work in a U.S. federal staffing context.
U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with configuration management tools such as ServiceNow CMDB, Atlassian Jira/Confluence, or similar enterprise CM repositories.
Understanding of ITIL configuration management practices and how they apply to CMDB design, configuration item relationships, and change management.
Experience supporting CM in regulated or government environments with formal audit, documentation, and compliance requirements.
Exposure to modern software development practices, including Agile methodologies and DevOps-oriented configuration/versioning workflows.

Compensation ranges for ASM Research positions vary depending on multiple factors; including but not limited to, location, skill set, level of education, certifications, client requirements, contract-specific affordability, government clearance and investigation level, and years of experience.
