Job Description

The Role:

As a Confidential Payroll Coordinator you will take ownership of the payroll functions for our most senior colleagues at Next. This is a vital, high-integrity role within our Head Office, ensuring that our leadership team is paid accurately, on time, and in full compliance with HMRC legislation. Given the nature of the confidential payroll, we are looking for someone who prides themselves on their discretion and meticulous attention to detail.
This role offers excellent flexibility working 21.75 hours over 3 days. To ensure seamless delivery, a degree of flexibility is required during the third week of each month, as well as during our peak periods in March, April, and September.

What You’ll Take On:

  • You will be the end-to-end guardian of the monthly payroll process for approximately 75 senior employees.
  • End-to-End Processing: Managing the full cycle using Pegasus Opera 3, from initial data entry to final BACS submissions and bank liaison.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Handling all RTI submissions to HMRC, managing year-end processing, and ensuring total Auto-Enrolment compliance for our defined contribution pension scheme.
  • Statutory Calculations: Accurately calculating and processing SSP, SMP, SPP, and Sickness/Holiday pay.
  • Lifecycle Management: Processing all starters and leavers, including the timely issuance of P45s.
  • Financial Reconciliation: Preparing detailed monthly payroll journals for the Finance Manager and resolving any payroll queries with professional excellence.
  • Data Integrity: Maintaining an absolute standard of confidentiality regarding sensitive executive data.

What You’ll Bring:

  • We are looking for a payroll specialist who is as comfortable with complex numbers as they are with people.
  • Experience running an accurate, timely payroll (ideally within a corporate environment).
  • Deep understanding of UK PAYE, NIC, and current HMRC regulations is essential.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with payroll software; specific experience with Pegasus Opera 3 is a significant advantage.
  • Understanding of BIK and experience in payrolling benefits would be beneficial.
  • An uncompromising eye for detail and high numerical accuracy.
  • The ability to handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
  • A proactive approach to meeting strict monthly deadlines while working a part-time schedule.
