Job Description

The Reality Labs organization is helping more people around the world come together and connect through Wearables and Virtual Reality products. With global departments dedicated to research and development in computer vision, machine learning, haptics, social interaction, and more, Reality Labs is committed to advancing the state of the art through ongoing research and development. The potential to change the world is immense - and we’re just getting started.

Our Extended Reality Technology organization is focused on cutting-edge research and development of machine perception technologies from early concepts to production level across all of Meta products and surfaces. These include VR products, Meta Glasses, and other devices. We develop core capabilities across a range of product domains, including Avatars, Contextual, Personal, and Spatial Computing, Calibration, and more.

In this role, you will be researching and applying a range of software, computer vision, and robotic learning techniques for solving challenges that bridge virtual and real worlds and will impact billions of people. We're addressing a variety of technical challenges in the areas of real-time image processing, 3D graphics, SLAM, scene reconstruction, machine perception, visualization, and human interaction.

Responsibilities

Design and develop novel calibration algorithms for sensors and displays

  • Design and prototype automation for calibration in collaboration with mechanical engineers and prototyping technicians
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and research teams from Meta Reality Labs in computer vision, machine learning, graphics, optics, camera hardware, manufacturing, and others
  • Define projects for other engineers to achieve an impact based on your direction
  • Contribute to engineering best practices: code quality, AI-assisted engineering, and technical culture within your team

Qualifications

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2+ years of experience in developing and designing Computer Vision and Perception algorithms for robotics technologies and systems
  • Experience in C++ or Python development
  • Prototyping and engineering experience in at least one relevant specialization area in Computer Vision or Perception for Robotics: Camera Calibration, Online Calibration, State Estimation, Sensor Fusion, 3D Reconstruction, Camera Pose Estimation, Structure-from-Motion
  • Experience applying AI/generative models in practice — coding assistants and agentic tooling for productivity, automated QA, image and video generation, and AI-assisted annotation and labeling
  • Experience with computer graphics or rendering pipelines (e.g., real-time or offline rendering, ray tracing, shaders, physically-based rendering, 3D scene/asset authoring in engines such as Unreal, Unity, or Blender), including generating and leveraging synthetic data for training and evaluating perception models
  • Experience building, training, and evaluating machine learning models — including designing data recipes, defining training/eval splits, running experiments, and iterating on model architecture and hyperparameters
  • Experience with the data lifecycle for model training at scale: sourcing, curation, annotation and QA, augmentation, dataset versioning, and analyzing data distribution/domain gaps to target coverage improvements M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Robotics, or a related technical field
  • Industry experience working on projects such as: applying AI/generative models, Sensor Fusion, 3D reconstruction, Camera Pose Estimation, and Structure from Motion
