Job Description

Introduction

Within ASML’s Metrology and Machine Control department, you will contribute to software solutions that support advanced semiconductor manufacturing systems. The Leveling team develops measurement capabilities that help ensure accurate focus during wafer exposure by providing highly precise wafer topography information. As imaging requirements become increasingly demanding, reliable verification of wafer measurements is essential for system performance and troubleshooting. In this internship, you will improve a wafer map verification solution that supports engineers in analyzing measurement quality and validating system behavior. This internship offers the opportunity to work on software that contributes directly to innovation within ASML’s lithography systems.

Your assignment

As a Computer Science | Software Engineering internship student, you will help enhance a wafer map verification application used by engineers working on prototype and development systems. You will collaborate with subject-matter experts to improve usability, functionality, and validation workflows. Your work will contribute to software that can be deployed across multiple system platforms. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Design and implement enhancements to an existing wafer map verification application.
  • Develop user-friendly software features that improve workflow efficiency.
  • Extend configuration and execution options within the application.
  • Support software validation and verification activities.
  • Collaborate with domain experts to define requirements and evaluate solutions.
  • Test, document, and validate implemented functionality.
  • Present results and recommendations to engineering stakeholders.

This is a master's internship for a minimum of 4 months, minimum 4 days per week (3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of February 2027.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

  • Are pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Have strong programming skills in Python.
  • Have experience with software development practices.
  • Are analytical and able to work independently on complex technical challenges.
  • Are collaborative and communicate effectively with technical stakeholders.
  • Are a proactive team player who can balance attention to detail with a broader system perspective.

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with C++.
  • Experience with automated testing.
  • Experience developing graphical user interfaces.
  • Exposure to software verification and validation activities.
  • Interest in semiconductor technology and metrology.

The internship provides hands-on experience in software engineering, measurement systems, and semiconductor technology. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment and learn how software contributes to the performance of some of the world’s most advanced technological systems. This internship is an excellent opportunity to develop technical expertise while creating solutions with real-world impact.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

About ASML

Who are we?

ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.

What do we do?

We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography. Our lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of tiny structures on silicon that together make up a microchip. We push our technology to new limits to enable our customers to create smaller, faster and more powerful chips.

Who are our people?

While you may think that only engineers and mathematicians work at ASML, you'll be surprised to find out that our people come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Across ASML, we have dedicated teams that manage customer support, communications and media, IT, software development and more. Every team in the company is essential for pushing our technology and the industry forward.

If you love to tackle challenges and innovate in a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment with all the flexibility and freedom to unleash your full potential, ASML is the place to be.
