The Means and Methods group at ASML supports the Electronic Development community with tools, ways of working, and engineering services. In this internship you will help improve how hardware and software interact within motion-control systems. You will explore how current designs compare to a more standardized approach and how they can improve. This contributes to a scalable design that strengthens robustness and simplifies daily engineering work. You will work with experts and contribute to a long-term solution.
During this internship you will investigate how an existing configuration tool can support an alternative architecture. You will analyze current and target designs, identify gaps, and propose improvements. You will also validate your ideas through a proof of concept. Your main responsibilities will be:
Analyze and compare two hardware-software interface architectures
Identify gaps and improvement opportunities in the target architecture
Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to gather requirements
Translate architectural insights into clear functional requirements
Propose a solution to extend the current configuration tool
Document findings, decisions, and recommendations clearly
Develop a proof of concept to validate the proposed solution
This is a bachelor/masters non-thesis internship for 6 months, minimum 4 days per week (2-3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026.
To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are pursuing a bachelors degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field
Have knowledge of system architecture and database modeling
Are analytical and able to translate insights into practical solutions
Communicate clearly and work well with others
Have experience with programming or data technologies such as JavaScript, SQL, or similar
Other requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter needs to include the willingness to relocate.
If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

Who are we?
ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.
What do we do?
We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography. Our lithography systems use ultraviolet light to create billions of tiny structures on silicon that together make up a microchip. We push our technology to new limits to enable our customers to create smaller, faster and more powerful chips.
Who are our people?
While you may think that only engineers and mathematicians work at ASML, you'll be surprised to find out that our people come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Across ASML, we have dedicated teams that manage customer support, communications and media, IT, software development and more. Every team in the company is essential for pushing our technology and the industry forward.
If you love to tackle challenges and innovate in a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment with all the flexibility and freedom to unleash your full potential, ASML is the place to be.
