The State of Maine Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a skilled and motivated Computer Facilities Manager to oversee the security, environmental controls, maintenance, and reliable operation of critical computer facilities and data center infrastructure.


This is technical services work of a managerial nature involving the planning, scheduling, coordination, and direction of physical systems and site support activities within a large central computer services facility. Responsibilities include site planning, physical facility and equipment security, environmental controls, and the coordination of new construction, renovations, and equipment installations. Supervision is exercised over support staff, vendors, and contractors. Work is performed under limited supervision, with considerable independent judgment and responsibility for maintaining the security, reliability, and operational readiness of the facility.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:

  • Manages the physical server area, including (but not limited to) security access, environmental controls, and fire suppression and maintenance to ensure a safe, secure, and effective physical facility.
  • Manages site preparation for computer hardware location, relocation, and installation in order to ensure safe, secure, and effective physical facility.
  • Researches related equipment and current and potential vendors in order to evaluate suitability to meet agency needs.
  • Develops Requests For Proposals and evaluates responses in order to solicit and select appropriate and necessary equipment and services.
  • Orders hardware necessary for computer installation and facility maintenance, including Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems, computer racks, cables, fire suppression equipment, water detection, air conditioning equipment and systems, flooring, etc.
  • Coordinates fire suppression and maintenance, and trains staff related to site environmental, electrical, and fire notification and suppression in order to ensure safety.
  • Coordinates network connections with telecommunications for installation of data circuits for the division in order to ensure coordination and installation.
  • Coordinates with service providers, including electrical, construction, maintenance, and related contractors, in order to coordinate and ensure physical facility maintenance.
  • Coordinates physical facility and security needs for computer equipment site relocations in order to ensure proper and effective relocation and final facility.
  • Participates in a variety of administrative, technical, and multi-agency projects and work groups in order to provide expertise and promote development of physical computer facilities.
  • Assists senior management and agency data processing managers in the physical aspects of developing short term and strategic information technology plans and solutions in order to provided guidance and assistance in related aspects of implementing information/automation technology systems to meet agency requirements.
  • Meets with customers, program managers, agency/vendor technical support personnel, and senior agency management in order to provide information and expertise regarding the physical aspects of information.
  • Implements and complies with human resource laws, policies, procedures and practices such as: AA/EEO, recruitment, employment, position classification, performance appraisals, training, discipline, contract administration, human resource components of security protocols of agency information security and confidentiality policies, and employee safety.

  • Ability to develop training programs, operating procedures, manuals, and related materials.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain records and reports.
  • Ability to use applicable computer programs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Ten (10) years education and experience to include at least one (1) year supervisory and administrative experience which provides a knowledge of multiprocessing systems, data communications, and computer support operations.
