About The Division
The Unclaimed Property Division is responsible for administering the state’s unclaimed property program and returning abandoned property to its rightful owners. To accomplish this objective, division staff receives and processes property reports from holders; provides information and assistance to claimants; verifies and processes claims, evaluates data for system implementation and manages the contract audit and voluntary disclosure programs. Owner outreach efforts include posting available properties on two online searchable databases (ClaimItTexas.gov and Missingmoney.com) and owner notice mailings.
Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week with occasional evening, weekend hours and holidays. Hybrid work schedule is available depending on business needs and managerial approval. Hours may change based on business need.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Education:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or marketing.
Experience:
·Four years of customer service experience.
·Two years of experience responding to customer telephone and email inquiries.
·Three years performing highly complex (senior level) accounts examination, claims processing, research or analytical work.
Preferred Experience:
·Experience working in an environment with a high volume of incoming customer inquires
·Experience working in a call center
·Experience reviewing probate, business, legal and or regulatory documents.
·Communicating effectively in writing and verbally in Spanish.
Substitution: One additional year of full-time experience providing customer service and responding to customer telephone and email inquiries may substitute for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years).
In this role you will:
·Reviews, edits, and determines the validity of unclaimed property claims.
·Processes unclaimed property claims by reviewing submitted documentation and following established procedures and checklists.
·Responds to email, letter and telephone inquiries from claimants; researches and generates claims based on written correspondence and telephone inquiries.
·Processes, examines, edits, and updates claimant stock accounts; documents actions; and monitors accounts for completion of subsequent actions.
·Identifies system problems.
·Learns and applies knowledge to progressively more critical and complex claims. Keeps supervisor informed of significant problems or errors and their causes; recommends appropriate solutions.
·Represents the section/division in meetings. Provides requested written information in a clear and concise manner. Assists in the development of procedures. May assist with training.
