About The Division
Put your customer service skills to use in a meaningful way at our Taxpayer Services Call Center. We are looking for individuals with strong customer service skills and experience in a fast-paced call center environment.
This position is for an Accounts Examiner III in the Taxpayer Services Division.This position is located in our call center located in the LBJ Building, 8th Floor, Austin, Texas, providing customer assistance regarding taxes administered by the Comptroller, including providing information on sales tax, franchise tax and other taxes and fees.
Standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours and telework schedules are subject to change based on business need. The Taxpayer Services has a probationary telework schedule as follows: new division employees must work in office a minimum of 30 calendar days before the employee is eligible to telework. First 30 days – employees must work in the office 5 days per week. Day 31 – employees must work in the office 3 days per week. You are eligible to apply for two additional telework days (i.e.,) if approved, the employee can telework 4 days) after the successful completion of the 6-month probationary telework schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
·Bachelor's degree from an accredited University or college
·Two (2) years of full-time work experience in a customer service-focused environment involving one or more of the following: providing account information, ensuring customer satisfaction, or researching available information for successful problem resolution
Preferred Qualifications
·Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business management.
·Experience in taxes and fees administered by the Comptroller’s Office.
·Experience in bookkeeping or accounting skills.
·Experience in handling 50 – 100 inbound calls per day.
·Call center experience handling customer service related calls that involves one of the following providing account information, customer satisfaction, or researching available information for successful conclusion.
·Experience communicating effectively in Spanish in a work environment.
Substitutions
One (1) additional year of full-time minimum experience as stated above may substitute for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years)

In this role you will:
Provides customer service to taxpayers. Functions include:
·Interpreting requests for information pertaining to tax forms, tax rules and procedures, exempt status, and account status.
·Researching tax laws, rules and taxpayer account information.
·Conveying information to taxpayers.
·Providing taxpayers with printed information concerning laws, rules, and procedures.
·Performing complex mathematical computations for taxpayer accounts.
·Performs research and administrative functions. Analyzes the status of taxpayer accounts; and interprets computer-generated information to respond to taxpayer requests for information.
·Complete ongoing training to stay abreast of various tax laws, rules, and policies changes.
·Performs other related duties as assigned.
