The Comptroller oversees accounting functions and financial operations for Communities In Schools of Central Texas. In partnership with the Chief Operations Officer, the Comptroller develops and implements the organization's financial strategy while ensuring the integrity, transparency, and accuracy of all financial reporting.
The Comptroller provides leadership and oversight of all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, and grants administration. In conjunction with the Chief Operations Officer, the Comptroller ensures the organization has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation, receive audits with an unqualified opinion, and undergo monitoring with no disallowed costs or chargebacks.
What You’ll Do
Accounting & Reporting
Prepare monthly financial statements.
Prepare annual financial statements.
Ensure timely financial reporting.
Maintain the general ledger.
Oversee month-end and year-end close.
Compliance
Coordinate annual financial audit.
Coordinate grant monitoring.
Ensure compliance with GAAP.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Oversee tax filings.
Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation.
Maintain internal controls.
Financial Leadership
Develop financial strategies in partnership with the COO.
Develop financial forecasts and scenario analysis to support organizational decision-making.
Provide financial oversight of federal, state, local, and foundation grants.
Manage all accounting operations.
Monitor organizational cash flow.
Coordinate annual operating budget.
Manage banking relationships.
Support long-term financial planning.
Leadership
Supervise accounting staff.
Develop department procedures.
Maintain the Financial Management Manual.
Prepare financial reports and presentations to the Board of Directors.
Promote organizational culture.
Perform other duties as required by the COO and CEO.
What You Bring
Accounting,Finance, or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsibleaccountingandfinancialmanagement experience
Experienceinnonprofitaccounting,includingfundandgrantaccounting,compliance,andreporting.
Experienceinaseniorfinancialmanagement rolepartneringwithexecutive staff,resultinginthedevelopment andimplementationofpoliciesandprocedures.
Knowledge of tax regulations and preparation relevant to nonprofit entities.
Team-orientedwithadesiretosupporttheorganization’sstrategicinitiatives.
Provenrecordofdeliveringongenerallyacceptedaccountingprinciplesandpractices,particularlynonprofitrevenue recognitionrules.
Demonstrated success in leading organizations through financial audits, resulting in unmodified audit opinions.
Preferred
Master’s degree in accounting.
Hold an active certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or a similar certification such as CMA or CFA.
ExperiencewithAmeriCorpsgrantmanagement.
Experience with foundation, state, and federal grants.
Experience preparing IRS Form 990.
Experience with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
Experience using the Fund Accounting software, MIP Abila Cloud.
Knowledge of local area school districts, city and county government, and NGOs financial practices.
