Job Description
Neighbourly BC Central Fill Solutions #1055 is looking for a full-time Compounding Pharmacy Assistant to join our team in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Compensation listed is a starting point only and will be determined based on the candidate's experience.
Patient Focused Care Responsibilities:
• Prepare non-sterile compounded medications under the supervision of a pharmacist or regulated pharmacy technician, following established formulas, procedures, and quality standards.
• Accurately weigh, measure, calculate, and prepare ingredients for compounded medications.
• Compound a variety of customized dosage forms, including capsules, creams, ointments, gels, solutions, suspensions, suppositories, and other preparations.
• Operate compounding equipment such as electronic balances, mixers, homogenizers, capsule-filling machines, mills, and other laboratory equipment as required.
• Follow master formulation records, compounding procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Package and label completed compounded preparations in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant compounding environment by adhering to cleaning schedules and established protocols.
• Clean, inspect, and maintain compounding equipment, work surfaces, and designated compounding areas.
• Follow safe handling procedures for hazardous and non-hazardous ingredients, including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and containment practices.
• Adhere to applicable pharmacy legislation, NAPRA standards, workplace safety requirements, and internal policies and procedures.
• Support quality assurance activities, including equipment verification, documentation review, cleaning logs, and maintenance of required records.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing compounding accuracy, efficiency, safety, and workflow.
• Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other compounding team members to meet daily production targets and turnaround times.
• Perform other compounding laboratory duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Compounding Supervisor.
Qualifications:
• Previous experience working in a pharmacy compounding laboratory is considered a strong asset.
• Completion of a Pharmacy Assistant program is preferred.
• Experience with non-sterile compounding techniques and the preparation of customized dosage forms is an asset.
• Familiarity with PK Software or other pharmacy compounding software is an asset.
• Experience using Kroll pharmacy software is an asset.
• Strong mathematical aptitude with the ability to accurately perform calculations involving weights, volumes, concentrations, percentages, ratios, and unit conversions.
• Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy, quality, and patient safety.
• Proven ability to consistently follow formulas, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), written protocols, and detailed instructions.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
• Comfortable operating laboratory equipment, electronic balances, and specialized compounding equipment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative pharmacy team.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, cleanliness, and quality assurance practices.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and consistency.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to all laboratory safety procedures and protocols.
• Flexibility to work scheduled shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required to support operational needs.
Schedule:
• 40 hours per week (Full-time)
• Typical shifts will be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
