Job Description

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Composite Technician to support the fabrication, assembly, repair, and inspection of advanced composite components used in a high-technology manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for producing high-quality composite structures while adhering to engineering specifications, manufacturing procedures, quality standards, and production schedules. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience working with composite materials and manufacturing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform composite fabrication activities including layup, bonding, assembly, and repair using carbon fiber, fiberglass, and other composite materials.
  • Prepare molds, tooling, materials, and assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Perform vacuum bagging, bonding, and curing processes while ensuring compliance with established manufacturing procedures.
  • Operate composite processing equipment such as ovens, curing systems, and related manufacturing tools.
  • Trim, drill, sand, rout, and finish composite components to required specifications and tolerances.
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections throughout the manufacturing process to verify product quality.
  • Identify and report defects, nonconformances, and process issues while supporting corrective actions.
  • Accurately complete production records, inspection documentation, and manufacturing reports.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all safety procedures and contamination-control requirements.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Technical training, vocational certification, or composite manufacturing certification preferred.

Experience

A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or technical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with composite materials such as carbon fiber and fiberglass.
  • Experience with vacuum bagging, bonding, curing, and composite repair processes.
  • Experience operating manufacturing equipment and precision hand tools.
  • Familiarity with aerospace, aviation, advanced manufacturing, automotive, marine, energy, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and industry manufacturing standards.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand movements and precision-based tasks.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, balance, and climb as necessary.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work around manufacturing equipment, tooling, and large assemblies.
  • Ability to work in environments that may include moderate noise, dust, airborne particles, and industrial materials.
  • Ability to work in confined or restricted-access areas as required.
  • Ability to use a computer and perform workstation-based tasks for extended periods.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Must be able to follow safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and quality standards.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, overtime, or weekend shifts as required by business needs.
  • Willingness to support operations across multiple production areas when needed.
