We are looking for an experienced and driven Composite Manufacturing Engineer to play a key role in bridging Composite Design and Composite Manufacturing. Working at the forefront of motorsport technology, you will develop and optimise manufacturing definitions, improve material utilisation, enhance manufacturing efficiency, and support the implementation of advanced composite manufacturing technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, optimise, and maintain composite ply kits and manufacturing definitions to ensure efficient, repeatable, and high-quality production.
- Utilise CATIA and laminate development software to generate and maintain ply definitions, DXFs, and manufacturing data, including laser projection outputs.
- Improve material utilisation through effective nesting strategies, reducing waste and increasing manufacturing efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with Composite Laminating, Design, Quality, and Production teams to identify manufacturing challenges and implement practical solutions.
- Support first-off component manufacture, validating laminate definitions and enhancing manufacturability.
- Analyse manufacturing performance data, material utilisation, scrap, and rework trends to drive measurable improvements and cost reductions.
- Maintain accurate configuration control, revision management, and manufacturing documentation.
- Support the implementation of digital manufacturing technologies and future composite manufacturing processes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and operational performance.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong understanding of composite materials, laminate construction, and composite manufacturing processes.
- Experience working with composite laminating techniques and manufacturing methods.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, laminate manuals, ply books, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in CAD systems, ideally CATIA.
- Experience or strong aptitude in ply development, laminate definition, nesting strategies, and manufacturing data generation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Experience collaborating with manufacturing teams to understand and resolve shop-floor challenges.
- Knowledge of engineering change control, traceability, and configuration management processes.
- Competent use of ERP/MRP and digital manufacturing systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of delivering within demanding timescales.
