Performs duties to lay-up a variety of composite parts.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works from work orders, specifications, blueprints, oral and written instructions to lay-up composites such as fiberglass, core material and prepreg. Lays-up according to ply orientation of warp, weft, ribbon and fiber direction, with lap and butt joint standards, in a controlled atmosphere and contaminate free environment.

  • Requires the ability to plan and perform a sequence of operations where standard lay-up methods are available, while independent action is also required to use these standards to comply with the different parts configuration and geometry. May work under the guidance of other layup techs.

  • Obtains specified materials and tools needed.

  • Cuts plys with the use of templates and tools.

  • Uses hand pressure and small tools to form and stretch lay-up, while avoiding wrinkles, bridging, air bubbles, gaps, contaminations, etc.

  • Ability to apply basic bagging operations for completions of standard operations in lay-up process.

  • Identifies parts for next operation.

  • Use of tools such as scissors, knives, pushing tools, markers, hammers, and other small tools.

  • Maintains a clean working environment.

  • Responsible for own work.

  • Performs other related duties.

  • Works from work orders, specifications, blueprints, oral and written instructions to lay-up composites such as fiberglass, core material and prepreg. Lays-up according to ply orientation of warp, weft, ribbon and fiber direction, with lap and butt joint standards, in a controlled atmosphere and contaminate free environment with little/ no guidance.

  • Requires the ability to plan and perform a sequence of operations on virtually all parts, some of which are unusual and difficult lay-ups where standard lay-up methods are available, while independent action is also required to use these standards to comply with the different parts configuration and geometry.

  • Responsible for own work, with the ability to train all employees on nearly any layup operation.

  • Guides, instructs and works with a small group of employees engaged in composite Lay-Up activities.

  • Responsible for leading, guiding, and directing other employees on composite needs

  • Responsible for training new and current production support specialist team members on processes and procedures

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or bronze level WorkKeys certification. Textron Aviation Blueprint certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of composite lay-up experience or related composite experience.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions may involve dirt, dust and grease. Could be exposed to fumes and sharp objects and loud noise. Exposure to heat. Safety shoes could be required.
