About the role

As a Compliance Technician at Tesco, you’ll play a vital role in upholding safety, quality, and technical compliance across our operations. You will be responsible for ensuring that all activities align with company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation, helping to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.

This role requires experience across multiple compliance areas, along with a proactive and collaborative approach. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to drive compliance standards, promote best practice, and support the effective delivery of both regulatory and operational requirements.

With a strong focus on attention to detail and continuous improvement, you will contribute to maintaining high standards while supporting the business in meeting its compliance obligations.

You will be responsible for

  • Support the team in making sure the business meets compliance requirements across areas such as lifting equipment, fire safety, hazardous materials, pressure systems, and water hygiene
  • Take ownership of specific compliance areas based on your experience, with the opportunity to build skills in additional areas
  • Carry out a mix of on-site inspections, audits, and desk-based checks to ensure safety, quality, and compliance standards are met
  • Help investigate equipment issues and incidents by carrying out checks and gathering supporting information
  • Produce clear, accurate reports and updates for senior stakeholders within agreed timelines
  • Share technical updates and guidance with teams to keep them informed and aligned
  • Support operational teams in applying company policies and adapting to any changes in regulations
  • Keep up to date with changes to Safe Systems of Work and help ensure these are understood and followed
  • Contribute to improving maintenance plans (PPMs) and standard procedures (SOPs)
  • Manage communications and reporting linked to legally required inspections
  • Monitor compliance data and performance, helping track progress against targets and requirements
  • Use systems to oversee maintenance activity, helping improve contractor performance and use of internal resources
  • Support contractor audits and work with Contract Managers to ensure agreed standards are met



You will need

  • Understanding of continuous improvement and how to apply it in day-to-day work
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to analyse data and use it to support decisions
  • Good problem-solving skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach
  • Comfortable using systems and IT, including Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of maintenance planning and processes
  • Awareness of governance and compliance requirements
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Experience managing and delivering legal compliance within an engineering environment (e.g. DSEAR, LOLER, PUWER, L8, PSSR, COSHH/LEV)
  • Engineering experience (preferred)
  • Relevant engineering qualification (preferred)
  • Good administrative skills, including use of IT systems and Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with external regulators or governing bodies
  • Ability to manage escalations from customers or stakeholders
  • Experience in scheduling resources and managing workloads
  • IOSH qualification (desirable)
