Job Description

Summary:

An opportunity is available for a Compliance Paralegal to join Thynne + Macartney.

This position will operationalise the firm’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) Program, complete stamping and PEXA in accordance with the firm and QRO requirements. The role will also be responsible for assisting the Firm in meeting its broader compliance requirements.

This opportunity is offered on a part-time basis (3 days per week).

Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation and ongoing management of the firm's AML/CTF Program, including compliance monitoring and reporting.
  • Manage client onboarding and due diligence processes, including identity verification, risk assessments and ongoing monitoring.
  • Identify, investigate and escalate AML/CTF and compliance risks, maintaining accurate records and reporting where required.
  • Provide compliance guidance and training to lawyers and staff.
  • Conduct compliance reviews, file audits and Lexon file reviews, and assist with implementing improvements where required.
  • Maintain compliance registers, records and reporting systems, and assist with audits and regulatory requests.
  • Complete stamping and PEXA transactions in accordance with firm policies, legislative requirements and Queensland Revenue Office (QRO) requirements.
  • Assist with legal file management, document administration and compliance-related record keeping.
  • Undertake other compliance and administrative duties as directed.

Skills and competencies:

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in compliance, legal administration, conveyancing, paralegal or professional services roles.
  • An interest in compliance, risk management and AML/CTF obligations.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgement.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive, adaptable and willing-to-learn approach.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
