Job Vacancy: Compliance Officer
By joining the team as Compliance Officer, you will assist in ensuring that MCB is conducting its business in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and codes, as well as professional standards, accepted business practices, and internal policies, standards and procedures.
In this role you will:
- Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, industry codes, standards, and internal policies, while identifying compliance issues and recommending process improvements and control enhancements.
- Conduct customer due diligence and KYC reviews, maintain related checklists and FAQs, and assess proposed client relationships with recommendations for escalation where required.
- Handle requests for information, inspections, and examinations from regulators, law enforcement agencies, auditors, and other relevant stakeholders within prescribed timelines.
- Support the management of AML/CFT/PF matters, including investigations into suspected or known money laundering activities, reporting findings, and providing guidance to mitigate financial, regulatory, and reputational risks.
- Manage customer complaints by ensuring accurate capture, categorisation, monitoring, follow-up, quality reviews, voice-of-customer surveys, and continuous process enhancement in line with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of annual compliance plans, ensuring timely completion of Compliance SBU activities and reporting obligations.
- Provide compliance advisory support to business units and stakeholders on regulatory, governance, and compliance-related matters, including communications with external parties.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of compliance, AML/CFT/PF, and process-related training programmes, while providing technical guidance to staff.
- Review business processes, procedures, products, controls, marketing materials, client communications, and documentation to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
- Identify, assess, investigate, and report compliance risks, breaches, potential breaches, and regulatory issues, while recommending appropriate corrective actions.
- Contribute to the preparation of governance, regulatory, committee, and annual reports, including compliance-related sections of MCB Ltd and MCB Group reports.
- Handle screening alerts, maintain compliance databases and records, and ensure accurate monitoring, tracking, and timely resolution of compliance activities.
- Participate in compliance-related projects and initiatives as assigned by the Compliance Coordinator, Team Leader, Manager, and/or Head of Compliance.

We are looking for candidates who have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in either Business Administration, Banking & Finance, Management , Law (LLB) or any relevant field;
- 3 years’ of working experience in either Compliance, Audit, Risk and/or Legal sectors within the Banking/Financial Services or in a Management company OR 5 years’ of working experience in Financial or Banking environment.
You will have to demonstrate :
- Good knowledge of Microsoft office tools;
- Sound knowledge in banking and financial operations and procedures;
- Thorough knowledge of regulatory framework including:
- Bank of Mauritius Guidelines
- Financial Services Act 2007
- Prevention of Corruption Act 2002
- Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2002 (FIAMLA)
- Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Regulations 201
- Borrowers' Protection Act 200
- Companies Act 200
- Data Protection Act 2017
- The United Nations (Financial Prohibitions, Arms Embargo and Travel Ban) Sanctions Act 2019
- The Anti-Money Laundering and Combatting the Financing of Terrorism and Proliferation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2019
- The Financial Crime Commission Act 2023
- Any other relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, directives, codes of conduct, and industry best practices applicable to the Bank's operations.
- Excellent analytical, writing, reporting and communication skills.
