He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Licensing and Regulatory Compliance department has an opportunity for a Compliance Officer to join our Compliance Response and Investigations team, based in central Auckland.

This is a varied role that combines fieldwork, investigations and case management. You’ll respond to requests for service and potential breaches, gather information, assess risk and work with customers and stakeholders to find effective solutions.

You’ll manage matters from initial assessment through to resolution, remediation or enforcement where required. Working across the Resource Management Act, Building Act and relevant Council bylaws, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your regulatory knowledge and make a direct contribution to Auckland communities.

You could expect to work on:

• Investigating complaints and requests for service relating to potential non-compliance.
• Gathering evidence, assessing risk and determining appropriate regulatory action.
• Providing advice and guidance to customers and stakeholders on legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Managing matters through resolution, remediation and enforcement, including formal warnings, notices and fines where appropriate.
• Working with internal specialists and external agencies to resolve complex compliance matters.

You’ll have experience in a regulatory, compliance or investigative environment and be confident applying legislation, policies and procedures to real-world situations.

We will be looking for:

• 2+ years’ experience in regulatory compliance, investigations or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in compliance, investigations, environmental regulation, building or government.
• Working knowledge of the Resource Management Act, Building Act and/or Council bylaws.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in risk or compliance management, resource management, building and construction, law, science or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience assessing risk, gathering evidence and applying legislation and information to support regulatory decisions, along with a current and relevant full New Zealand driver licence.

This role has a remuneration range of $78,311 - $92,130
Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
