Summary

This promotional opportunity is limited to current employees of the Louisiana Department of Insurance.

The mission of the Department of Insurance is to enforce the insurance laws and regulations of the state impartially, honestly and expeditiously.

The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking a Compliance Examiner Deputy Chief to join the Office of Financial Solvency/Financial Examinations/Field Division. This position assists in overseeing the Department's financial examination program, supervising examination staff, and ensuring compliance with applicable insurance laws, regulations, and financial standards.

Examples of duties

Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been at the supervisory level or above:

Eight years of experience in accounting, auditing, banking, compliance management, financial operations, or insurance; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus nine semester hours in accounting and an additional fifteen semester hours in accounting, economics, finance, business law, insurance, statistics, financial analysis, or money and banking plus five years of experience in accounting, auditing, banking, compliance management, financial operations, or insurance; OR

A bachelor’s degree with nine semester hours in accounting and an additional fifteen semester hours in accounting, economics, finance, business law, insurance, statistics, financial analysis, or money and banking plus five years of experience in accounting, auditing, banking, compliance management, financial operations, or insurance; OR

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics plus five years of experience in accounting, auditing, banking, compliance management, financial operations, or insurance; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business or public administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics plus four years of experience in accounting, auditing, banking, compliance management, financial operations, or insurance; OR

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Certified Financial Examiner (CFE), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation plus three years of experience in accounting, auditing, banking, compliance management, financial operations, or insurance.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties:

As a Compliance Examiner Deputy Chief in the Office of Financial Solvency/Financial Examinations/Field Division, you will/may:

  • Direct and coordinate financial examinations of insurers to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and financial standards.
  • Supervise in-house and contract financial examiners, including assigning work, evaluating performance, and providing training.
  • Develop and implement examination policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee examination reports and documentation supporting NAIC accreditation requirements.
  • Coordinate with the NAIC and other state insurance regulators on multistate examinations and regulatory matters.
  • Meet with insurance company representatives and other stakeholders to address examination findings and resolve regulatory concerns.
  • Advise agency leadership on insurers' financial condition, examination findings, and regulatory issues.
  • Conduct complex examinations, assist with administrative functions, and perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation: The salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience within the established pay range.
