New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey resources is seeking a Compliance Engineer for collecting, validating, and maintaining regulatory compliance data to ensure gas distribution operations meet the requirements of 49 CFR Part 192, applicable state regulations, and company procedures. This role supports inspections, surveys, DIMP activities, audits, and regulatory reporting by maintaining accurate records in systems such as Maximo and GIS, identifying data gaps, and coordinating corrections with field and engineering teams. The position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Major Responsibilities:
• Collect, review, and validate compliance data for required inspections and surveys
• Ensure records comply with 49 CFR Part 192, applicable state codes, and company procedures.
• Update and maintain compliance records in systems such as Maximo, GIS, and compliance databases.
• Assist with preparation of regulatory reports, audits, and inspections.
• Identify data gaps, inconsistencies, or compliance issues and coordinate corrections with field and engineering teams.
• Track compliance schedules, deadlines, and follow up actions to ensure timely completion.
• Support DIMP related data collection, leak cause documentation, and historical record maintenance.
• Maintain organized documentation and retention of compliance records.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders to resolve compliance questions.
• Follow all safety policies and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Position Requirements:
• Bachelors Degree in Engineering is required, preferably mechanical, electrical or chemical.
• 0-3 years of experience in the utility or construction field, or the combined equivalent of education and experience is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of federal pipeline safety regulations (49 CFR Part 192) and/or state utility regulations preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify data discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy in data management and documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across field, engineering, and regulatory teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); ability to learn new systems and technologies quickly.
• Understanding of data integrity principles and record retention requirements preferred.
• Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.

Other Details:
Compensation: Expected base pay range for this role will be $70,500- $95,500.
Base pay is based on several factors including, experience, skills, and knowledge.
This role will be eligible to participate in an annual short term incentive program.
