Complex Claims Adjuster – Construction Defect

Pay Range: $100,000- $150,000 Per Year. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire and will be dependent on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, skill set, experience, education, credentials, and licensure when applicable.

As part of Knight Insurance Group, our affiliated insurance operations support a growing portfolio of specialty and complex risks. We are seeking an experienced Complex Claims Adjuster to handle construction defect claims, including multi-party litigation and coverage-intensive matters. This role is critical to ensuring timely, fair, and technically sound resolution of high-exposure claims.

As a Complex Claims Adjuster, you will manage a portfolio of construction defect claims from inception through resolution. This includes investigating losses, analyzing coverage, managing defense counsel, evaluating exposure, setting and adjusting reserves, and negotiating settlements. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, legal counsel, and external experts to resolve claims efficiently while protecting the company’s financial and legal interests.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned adjuster who thrives in complex litigation environments and brings strong technical judgment, organization, and communication skills.

What You'll Do as a Complex Claims Adjuster:

  • Manage a dedicated inventory of construction defect claims, including litigated and multi-party matters
  • Analyze and interpret policy coverage, endorsements, exclusions, and contractual risk transfer
  • Conduct detailed investigations and coordinate with experts (engineers, consultants, accountants, etc.)
  • Establish, monitor, and adjust loss reserves in accordance with best practices
  • Retain, manage, and evaluate defense counsel and litigation strategy
  • Negotiate settlements within authority and prepare recommendations for higher-level authority as needed
  • Coordinate subrogation and recovery opportunities when applicable
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state regulations and internal claims standards
  • Collaborate with underwriting, legal, and management on complex exposure issues
  • Contribute to claims process improvements and best-practice initiatives

Qualifications

What do we look for in our Complex Claims Adjuster?

  • 5+ years of claims experience, with a strong focus on construction defect claims
  • Experience handling litigated, high-exposure, and multi-party claims
  • Strong understanding of commercial general liability (CGL) coverage and construction-related exposures
  • Familiarity with California construction defect law and insurance regulations (required)
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including reporting and negotiation
  • Comfort with claims management systems and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal and external partners
  • Active adjuster license(s) (or ability to obtain as required)
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
