Job Description

We are pleased to announce a wonderful opportunity for a Complex Chief Engineer.

The Complex Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all engineering, maintenance, and asset protection functions across multiple hotel properties. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of all building systems, equipment, and physical assets. The Complex Chief Engineer leads engineering teams, manages preventative maintenance programs, oversees capital projects, and ensures compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. This position plays a critical role in protecting the asset, minimizing downtime, and supporting overall guest satisfaction and operational excellence.

What will you be doing most days?

Engineering Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee all day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations across multiple properties.
  • Ensure all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems, are operating efficiently and effectively.
  • Perform and oversee preventative maintenance programs to protect assets and reduce emergency repairs.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance issues and emergency situations to minimize operational disruption.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, train, and develop a team of maintenance technicians (Asst Chief Engineers, Building Maintenance Tech I & II).
  • Assign and monitor work orders through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (e.g., QUORE).
  • Establish clear expectations, provide coaching, and ensure accountability for performance and productivity.
  • Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and teamwork across the engineering team.

Vendor & Project Management

  • Oversee all third-party contractors and vendors, ensuring quality of work, cost control, and adherence to timelines.
  • Manage service contracts, preventative maintenance agreements, and vendor relationships.
  • Support capital expenditure (CapEx) planning and execution, including equipment replacement and property improvements. Communicate with Corporate office for upcoming Capex projects.

Asset Protection & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including safety, fire, and environmental standards.
  • Maintain proper documentation for inspections, permits, and maintenance records.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect team members, guests, and property assets.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Assist in developing and managing engineering budgets, including labor, supplies, and repairs & maintenance expenses.
  • Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
  • Support forecasting and long-term asset planning across the complex.

Guest Experience & Property Standards

  • Ensure timely and professional response to guest maintenance requests, delivering high levels of service.
  • Maintain the overall appearance and condition of the property, including guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to support seamless hotel operations.

What are the requirements for this position?

  • 4–6 years of experience in engineering or maintenance within hospitality, commercial facilities, or a related field required.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general maintenance systems.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems (e.g., QUORE or similar) preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across a multi-property environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Customer service mindset with the ability to anticipate and respond to guest needs.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilities.

Physical Requirements for this Position

You must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time as the job dictates.

Travel Requirements

This position requires up to 10% travel. Travel is outside the local area and overnight, which requires the ability to travel between properties and respond to operational needs as required.
