Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Calgary office is recruiting for an Accountant, Complex Accounting to join the team. This position reports to the Manager, Capital Assets & Complex Accounting in the Accounting Service Unit, part of Pembina’s Financial Services Division.

Accounting Services provides financial reporting and accounting leadership across Pembina's Service Units and is responsible for the preparation and compilation of Pembina's consolidated financial statements, notes, MD&A, and operational highlights. The team is also responsible for establishing and ensuring adherence to accounting policies, review and analysis of new accounting standards and interpretations, accounting for capital assets, legal entity reporting and regulatory compliance and maintaining SAP FI/CO data integrity.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Preparation of quarterly and annual financial statement files and working papers while maintaining a solid working knowledge of IFRS reporting and disclosure requirements for Leasing and Capital Asset;
  • Develop a high degree of comfort with key systems; including but not limited to SAP, PowerPlan, and Analysis for Office;
  • Help maintain lease accounting system: assisting in performing enhancements to current system for continuous improvement and enhancements of the software;
  • Coordinating with the Asset Teams and Service Units within Pembina for identifying new leases and maintaining lease accounting;
  • Annual budget and monthly forecasting as it relates to complex accounting areas, including Net Investment Leases (NIL), and Right-of-Use Asset (ROU);
  • Support the Specialists and Senior Accountants in preparation and delivery of the monthly internal and quarterly external reporting packages with specific focus Leasing and Capital Assets;
  • Desire and drive to understand relevant and future IFRS as it relates to Leasing and Capital Assets;
  • Support and maintain open communication with all departments including but not limited to Accounting Policy, Tax, Treasury and Corporate Planning;
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Asset Teams and Financial Planning and Analysis teams;
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of complex accounting topics to meet internal and external reporting requirements;

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance along with a CPA – CA accounting designation;
  • Recent experience in quarter-end and year-end reporting, including external financial reporting would be an asset;
  • Minimum of 2 years’ post designation experience;
  • Comfortable with understanding and learning accounting systems (SAP and related consolidation system, BPC experience an asset, PowerPlan Leasing Software);
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, hardworking, environment where successful employees are comfortably embracing change as a standard;
  • The ability to identify key IFRS financial reporting issues through practical application of accounting and operational knowledge;
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and a quick learner who is self-motivated and able to work under tight deadlines in a continuously changing environment; and
  • Effective communication, organization, and team-building skills complemented by a strong work ethic.

Pembina’s Flexible Work Standard provides the option for eligible employees to work remotely on Fridays.
