About the project:

A 30 ML/d seawater desalination plant will be delivered at Belmont South NSW, to provide weather independent supply to the community in the lower Hunter region.

Seen as one of the largest capital projects in the water sector in Hunter region, the community is expecting a sustainable outcome for the nature of a seawater desalination plant. It is also the first project in Hunter Water pursuing an IS Rating, as part of its Carbon Neutral Strategy by 2035.

We are looking for an experienced Completions Engineer to join the Belmont Desal project based in Newcastle, NSW.

Your Role:

  • Drive completion, quality, and close-out objectives through planned, controlled work processes aligned with project requirements.
  • Implement and maintain the Belmont Desal completions and in-field defects management systems in compliance with project, and electrical requirements.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, Engineering, Project Delivery, and Commissioning to establish completion strategies, deliverables, preservation processes, and handover conventions.
  • Develop and deliver completions training, and support engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors in completion and handover processes.
  • Establish handover packages, condition precedent requirements, and completion milestones, ensuring they are integrated into project programs and tracked in relevant systems.
  • Manage detailed completions and operational readiness programs, including precedent matrices, close-out deliverables (Design and Construction), and milestone reporting.
  • Lead walkdowns, punch list inspections, and defect close-out activities to support commissioning readiness and compliance with best practice standards.
  • Develop, validate, and facilitate operational and final handover packages, including manuals, maintenance standards, Hexagon – Smart Completion, GIS information, and transfer of records to final repositories.
  • Track completion notices, certificates, inspections, NCRs, corrective actions, and non-conformances, ensuring timely resolution and compliance across durability, safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement by reviewing completion and handover processes, preparing lessons learned, communicating quality alerts, attending meetings, and maintaining orderly compliance records.

About You:

  • Relevant qualification in Engineering, Science, Building, Construction, Quality Management or Project Management, or a Trade Certificate, with degree studies desirable.
  • Strong experience in quality management systems, planning techniques, and application of relevant Australian and international standards.
  • Engineering or construction experience, including at least 3 years in a similar completions and/or commissioning role on a large-scale project.
  • Proficiency in programme, conditions precedent, GIS, and risk management tools and practices, including Aphex, Aconex, Hexagon, and GIS applications.
