Job Description

Introduction to the job

As a Competence Manager Operational Technology and Security, you play a key role in Asset Management within ASML by translating policies into multi-year strategies that guide the development and optimization of campus assets. You ensure that solutions align with business needs while maximizing value, reliability, and security.

You work closely with project teams to define requirements and review designs, ensuring alignment with long-term plans. In addition, you initiate and drive projects where Corporate Real Estate (CRE) is the primary stakeholder, such as system upgrades and refurbishments. Throughout the asset lifecycle, you act as a 3rd line support expert.

The role requires balancing input from multiple stakeholders, including CRE, IT, and Security, while addressing the diverse needs of users such as production, logistics, and R&D. This makes the position both dynamic and complex.

As the Subject Matter Expert, you cover key domains such as Operational Technology (e.g. SCADA, smart grids, traffic systems), Physical Security (e.g. access control, surveillance), and OT Security.

You collaborate closely with other competence managers and stakeholders to translate policies into scalable strategies and solutions. You also create demand towards IT and the CRE Center of Excellence. The role is primarily managerial, with execution handled by operational teams, contractors, and consultants, while you focus on strategy, performance improvement, innovation, and maintenance optimization.

You work with a wide range of stakeholders, including Facility Management, CRE Center of Excellence, project teams, Risk & Business Assurance, Security, internal customers, and external partners.

The role is primarily focused on the Netherlands, with limited (up to 10%) regional support, and reports to the CRE NL Manager Competences.

Role and responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the OT and Physical Security NL Master Plans, translating long-term (5–10 year) strategy into clear roadmaps, standards, and operational requirements
  • Develop and maintain functional standards for OT and security systems and managed assets, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and guiding construction and infrastructure projects
  • Act as a technical authority in design processes by reviewing and challenging designs from third-party engineers and consultants, ensuring alignment with strategy, performance, and security requirements
  • Optimize asset and system performance by balancing reliability, cost efficiency, business continuity, and risk mitigation across OT and security domains
  • Provide 3rd line support for complex operational issues, acting as an escalation point for troubleshooting and continuous improvement in the field
  • Stay up to date with industry developments and emerging technologies, proactively integrating relevant innovations (e.g. digitalization, AI, smart systems) into strategy, standards, and requirements
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including Facility Management (Physical Security), CRE Center of Excellence, Risk & Business Assurance, and Core IT to translate vision and policy into scalable operational solutions
  • Partner with Core IT to define system requirements and demand, ensuring alignment on topics such as CMDB, OT networks, and cybersecurity
  • Work with contract managers and external partners to define performance indicators, monitor delivery, and drive accountability for engineering, IT, and security service providers
  • Maintain and continuously improve work processes, documentation, and instructions, including the development of standardized and automated workflows
  • Manage and coordinate external engineering firms, IT providers, and security consultancies, ensuring effective delivery and alignment with organizational goals

Education and experience

  • Master’s degree in Operational Technology, Security Management, or a related field; alternatively a Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience
  • Certified ASIS PSP (Physical Security Professional) or equivalent certification
  • Strong expertise in OT systems, including strategy, design, and process optimization
  • Solid background in physical security within complex or high-tech environments
  • In-depth knowledge of OT security topics and related risk management practices
  • Familiarity with building and smart systems (e.g. HVAC, office occupancy, SMART systems)
  • Proactive mindset with interest in innovation, including AI-based solutions and process safety systems

Skills

  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written); Dutch is highly preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and build strong, trust-based partnerships
  • Skilled in stakeholder management across multiple levels and functions
  • Results-driven with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Self-starter with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset
  • Ability to plan, structure, and align activities with a focus on people and processes
  • Clear and efficient communicator, able to convey complex topics concisely

About ASML

Who are we?

ASML is an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. We make machines that chipmakers use to mass produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, we’ve now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities and more than 60 locations around the world.

What do we do?

We provide chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography.
