The Community Traffic Safety Program Coordinator (PennDOT Grant) is responsible for coordinating and implementing traffic safety education programs and public awareness activities aligned with the goals and objectives of the PennDOT Community Traffic Safety Project Grant, under the guidance of the Supervisor of Community Traffic Safety. This position is grant-funded.

Examples of duties

  • Coordinate and conduct health education programming on twelve traffic safety focus areas, as outlined in the PennDOT Grant, to youth and adults in all of Montgomery County (examples: schools, worksites, community- and faith-based organizations).
  • Develop and distribute traffic safety health education materials for distribution to organizations and at community events.
  • Promote traffic safety initiatives and observances via press releases, media campaigns, social media platforms, and County websites.
  • Assist Program Manager in preparing quarterly reports by documenting and recording program activities and data, managing grant budget, and in grant writing.
  • Attend and participate in all PennDOT required meetings, trainings, and conferences.
  • Professional development and certification in program areas, such as, but not limited to, Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST), CarFit Technician, etc.
  • Act as a departmental representative or liaison when attending or participating in meetings, conferences, committees, and task forces.
  • Flexible and able to work extended working hours, which may include nights, weekends/holidays as necessary.
  • Other related work as required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Public Health Administration, Health Education, Communications, Health Communications or related field.
  • Knowledge of the principles of public health education.
  • Familiarity with traffic safety topics.
  • Duties require travel throughout the county, therefore a valid driver’s license, auto insurance and a reliable means of transportation is mandatory.
  • Must be computer literate with recent work experience using a computer.
  • Good inter-personal, oral and written communications skills are required.
  • Must be accurate, detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Must project a professional demeanor, at all times.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
  • This position requires the following clearances as a condition of employment: Child Abuse History Clearance, PA Criminal Record History, and FBI Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Onsite in-person attendance is required as directed by Supervisor or Administrator.
