About the Role:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Sports Performance, the Community Sports Performance Coach will primarilybe responsible foroverseeing the development of community-based athletes and developing the Brock Sports Performance brand.
The Community Sports Performance Coach enhances community engagement with local sports organizations, coaches, and athletes, providingexpertiseto aspiring athletes to enhance Brock’s community outreach and increase annual revenue generation opportunities for Brock Sport & Recreation. The Sports Performance Coach will exemplify equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of student athlete development, providing a safe sport environment.
The Community Sports Performance Coach will:
Coordinate the outreach and marketing for community teams and athletes;
Coordinate the scheduling of the Brock Sports Performance centre for community teams, small group and individual training for local High school, Club, Provincial and National level athletes;
Lead coaching,assessing,and programming for all community athlete groups;
Lead the development of our athlete development program;
Lead the marketing and promotional seminars for all prospective groups;
Interview, hire and train allpart-timeBrock Sports Performance community staff;
Conduct weekly Brock Sports Performance community staff meetings;
Develop andmaintainrelationships with local high school coaches, athletic directors, and other key stakeholders in the community;
Create and manage social media content that promotes Brock Sports Performance; and
Assistadministrative staff with invoicing and processing payments
Performance Coach for 1-2 Varsity Teams
Design, implement, conduct,monitorand evaluate strength and conditioning programs for assigned Brock University varsity teams;
Work collaboratively with Sport Coaches and Associate Director of Performance to create a list of priorities for each assigned team, developing needs analysis, yearly training plansin accordance withteam goals;
Work with assigned varsity teams to ensure adequate preparation and recovery strategies are implemented prior to and after each practice, trainingsession,and competition;
Take part in weekly integrated support team meetings and department meetings
Assistwith the rehabilitation of injured athletes in collaboration with therapy staff for the teams youare responsible for;
Supervise the Brock Performance Centre facilityin accordance withcurrent policies and procedures;
Manage several student volunteers on each team and provide education sessions during staff training;
Conduct fitness testing for assigned varsity teams, create team results and player profiles on templates provided;
Monitor in-season and off-season team training sessions, reporting attendance to Associate Director of Performance;
Assistin the recruiting process of varsity athletes for assigned teams; and
Possible National Sport Organization involvement as a strength & conditioning coach
This position will be required to work afternoons, evenings and occasional weekends based on operational needs.
Key Skills and Experience:
UndergraduateDegree in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, Physiology, or Physical Education;
Internationally recognized certification in strength and conditioning (e.g., CSCS, CSCCA, UKSCA, ASCA) and Standard First Aid/CPR/AED;
Coaching and administration experience, working inan athletic setting (large and small groups);
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience combined with experience in strength and conditioning coaching at the high school, collegiate or professional level;
Knowledge of University (USPORTS/OUA) athletic environment;
Proven ability to work with sports teams, varsity athletes and coaches in training and evaluating athletic performance for multiple sports;
Understanding of the performance, strength and conditioning requirements and programs associated with success in national and international sports;
Ability todemonstratethe proper use of strength and conditioning equipment inhigh-performancefacilities;
Understanding of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and proficient computer skills, including MS Office Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets, internet search engines, and web applications;
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
Proven ability to work collaboratively with sports teams, varsity athletes, and coaches in developing,delivering,and evaluating performance programs for multiple sports;and
Ability to mentor, motivate, coach, and inspire student-athletes.
Preferred or Asset Skills:
Master’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field;
CSEP (Certified Exercise Physiologist) certificate;
NCCP and/or USAW Weightlifting
Additional Information:
This is a part-time,fixed term contractfor12-months.
TargetHourlyRate $37.00 to $40.24 per hour*
*The hourly rate is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
