Job Description

Role: Community Short Breaks Worker

Salary: £25,949.00 per annum (pro rata) £13.45 an hour

Term Time – Thursday 4:14pm - 8:15pm...Friday 2:30pm - 9:30pm...Saturday & Sunday (10am – 5pm). School Holidays: throughout Monday – Friday 9:30am - 3:30pm. No Bank Holidays

Action for Children Social Opportunities supports a diverse group of disabled children/young people, delivering fun activities & encouraging friendships, fun & choice in how to spend their time, encouragement to be part of their local communities & supporting parent/carers to have break.

Our community-based venues are in Bury at Elton Centre, Sunnybank Centre (during Term Time) and Bury Athletics Club (during School Holidays).

A bit about the role

In the role of Community Short Breaks Worker, you'll be delivering fun activities & encouraging friendships, fun & choice in how to spend their time, encouragement to be part of their local communities & supporting parent/carers to have break.

You will support children and young people to participate in activities and encourage and promote their practical life and social skills. As a Community Short Breaks Worker, you'll make a difference by:

How you'll help to create brighter futures

  • Working with a diverse group of disabled children and young people and delivering exciting social activities such as baking, arts ‘n' crafts, sports, games and going out in the local community.

  • Encouraging children and young people to make friends, enjoy their social time and be part of their local communities, as any other child and young person would.

  • Monitoring and assessing individual progress and development through diary sheets and care plans.

  • Ensuring that children and young people are nurtured in a safe environment.

  • Personal care.

Let's talk about you.

  • Experience of working with or spending time with disabled children/young people is an advantage but not a necessity.

  • An enthusiasm and passion to make a difference.

  • A belief that every child should have the same opportunities in life.

  • Innovative ideas for activities and ways to improve.

  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.

  • Flexibility to work a variation of shift patterns.

There will be full training provided free to support you in your role.
