The Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department is currently seeking applicants to fill a Community Relations Risk Reduction Coordinator (Community Developer 1H) position, grade H18, in the Office of Community Relations & Engagement.

About the Position

Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department is seeking a Community Developer I to support operations within the Office of Community Relations and Engagement. This professional role is responsible for creating and implementing fire safety and injury prevention programs for various age groups and audiences for the purpose of informing and educating the public about the Department’s activities and services.

This role performs work in the areas of community liaison, development, advocacy, and social services among client populations. Incumbents participate in the collection, analysis and summarization of data relating to the administration of the program to which assigned. Work is performed under close supervision of a higher-level Community Developer or other supervisory position. This position requires evening and weekend work.

Examples of duties

Resource Development and Management

  • Research fire safety and injury prevention programs from various sources to develop new public education and improve existing education.
  • Determine cost effective options for producing and acquiring program materials.
  • Create publications and promotional materials/visual aids to enhance department and program objectives.
  • Conceptualize and develop themes to be used in presentations, exhibits, displays and projects.
  • Assist in collecting research information and analyzing data to tract trends.

Communication

  • Complete reports, position papers, correspondence and letters as needed and/or in response to internal and external inquiries.
  • Effectively document and articulate community outreach data as defined by strategic goals, department objectives and accreditation requirements.
  • Coordinate and/or attend external meetings/trainings/conferences.

Event Planning and Coordination

  • Proactively and cooperatively engage with internal and external customers to arrange resources and communicate logistical information when planning and executing events.
  • Prepare and organize the content and workflow of assigned events and projects in a timely manner.
  • Identify appropriate special equipment, props and promotional items.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Social Service, Sociology, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Responsible work experience which includes coordination of group activities, preferably including work with disadvantaged individuals.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license.

An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. This position is essential. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
